Recruitment Counselor Advice

Hey ladies! So, I head back to campus on August 14th (SO EXCITED!) and recruitment starts the following Wednesday, so needless to say, it's coming up very soon!

I am, obviously, a Pi Chi for 2011 and I'm absolutely thrilled and extraordinarily nervous. I had an amazing Pi Chi when I went through, and I want to be just as great as she was. I've been reading around, but I figured the best way to find advice would be to ask the "pros" and get information direct.

What advice do you have for my fellow recruitment counselors and myself? What would have made your recruitment experience better had your PX told you?

be discreet. if you are not supposed to let your pnms know what sorority you are a member of, don't do it.

be unbiased.keep the pnm's best interest uppermost in your mind. if it comes down to her making a decision between your sorority and another, you have to be unbiased.

be empathetic and sympathetic if you have to deliver some bad news to a pnm(she did not receive any invitations to the next round).

Remember that you have information that these women don't have so treat their concerns with respect. You know the rumors and tent talk are false, but if you have a pnm who obviously likes a house that others are talking negatively about you need to do more than just say "Oh those aren't true."

You have the opportunity to be the voice of your entire Greek system, and you can make that voice whatever you'd like it to be. You can be a strong advocate for fairness or you can be wishy-washy about defending those chapters that might need an advocate right now. Good luck! I'd love to hear a recruitment story from your perspective - after of course.

Thanks so much for the advice! I'm gonna print out the page and share it with the entire recruitment team. And if you still have advice, please, give me as much as possible! haha.

DubaiSis--> I definitely want to post a recruitment story once the week is over. I'll most likely be posting my personal recruitment story and my pi chi recruitment story, I know one has a happy ending, I hope this next one does too! haha

Your trick will be finding code names for a whole group of rushees.

I'll probably just give them real names (Mary will be Sally) so that it's easier.

When I was a Rho Gamma, I was up front with my PNMs that I wanted everyone to go to pref, even if they were less than thrilled about their remaining chapters, even if they seemed sure they would drop after---and they all did. No one dropped out before pref.

I told them to try to resist temptation, but that if they really wanted to find out my affiliation, they probably could (my picture was in the Triangle, nothing I can do about that), but to know that I am keeping their best interests in mind and the best interests on Panhellenic as a whole and not being partial to my own chapter.

Also, I told them not to gossip about chapters, because you shouldn't negatively influence a PNM who might genuinely like a chapter that you talk trash about. I told them to write all negative comments in their book. They were all silent and covering up their cards while ranking after each round.

Along those lines, I told them not to be rude to chapter members. The women you meet really love their chapter. Not being interested is no reason to be rude.

For the sake of keeping your PNMs straight in your head as you write the thread, you might want to change their names to another name that starts with the same letter. (Amanda will be Anne, Heather will be Holly). Or maybe a celebrity they resemble.

I did a thread too: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=83692
