Style at Mizzou?

Hey y'all. I don't really know what to expect style-wise at mizzou because I'm from out of state so any advice would be great!

Also, I have tinsel extensions in my hair right now and I plan to go back to feather extensions soon, but I was wondering how popular these are in missouri/at mizzou? I don't want sororities to cut me just because I have weird stuff in my hair lol

I would not suggest having either of those items in your hair at almost any rush, anywhere, even if it is a fashion trend. You might not want to be remembered for http://www.finefeatherheads.com/

This is the Mizzou clothing suggestion page http://mizzoupha.com/what-to-wear though my Blanche side eye is engaged with the preference ensemble on the bottom left. Separately maybe, but together, hmmm.

I'm with ya Vandal. And from the few women I've knows from Greek life at Mizzou, I'd say it's pretty Midwestern. Go understated and polished. Choose outfits a bit dressier than what they've shown (haven't we determined that's always true?), but not too much more.

I just think a fashion accessory shared by Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Dog the Bounty Hunter, Rayanne Graff of My So Called Life, and Mr. T is a bold statement for rush. Don't get me wrong, I love a Cher feather head accessory when I'm singing Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves, or I'm doing a performance of Copacabana with yellow feathers in my hair, and a dress cut down to there.

Think classic, not cracktastic.

Colorado is NOT the midwest, in more ways than I can recount. I'm guessing CO from your user name (unless you're meaning "colorado" as in "red" and you're a redhead, lucky girl). Having a lot of first-hand knowledge of CO (I pay taxes in that state as well as AZ), I will tell you to ratchet your look back until after you're finished with recruitment. There is so much great information here on GC if you do a little searching. Type in the name of your school + recruitment and see what comes up.

There is a place and a time for personal style statements, including the off-beat and avant-garde. Now is not that time. Good luck with recruitment! Hope you find a home.

Aside/swerve (of course):Those feather things remind me of "Hair" and tie-dye. Shudder. I will never ever wear tie-dye again. One thing no one ever talks about is how everything smelled back in the day... the smells...*gag*

The feather things made with real feathers are killing hundreds of birds. And real or faux, they make you look like a 1979 skating rink refugee trying to buy drugs in the parking lot from some dude in an El Camino. Just say no.

I had to look up tinsel extensions. When Beyonce is the first person to come up, that really isn't a good sign.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised this is where the "stripper culture" has led.

Tinsel extentions? Seriously? As in Christmas decorations in your hair? I get the feathers, especially at a festival but not for everyday use, especially not for rush. There are great ways to stand out, but these are not it.

What in the world is that one girl wearing for pref round example?!?!?! I know I didn't go to Mizzou but my St. Louis relatives would never ever have dressed like that!

ETA: Save the tinsel and the feathers for a swap/mixer once you pledge.

Question about First Round and Philanthropy attire

I was surprised to see that in both days, the recruitment t-shirt was paired with denim (I think the shorts even looked like cut-offs?). Is that really appropriate for Mizzou, or should PNMs really wear nicer shorts or pants? Just curious.

KDMafia 07-29-2011 11:39 AM

Are they seriously advocating that dress with those heels? How would she even be able to sit comfortably? If a PNM walked into our chapter room my first instinct would me to make sure she didn't take out any decorations walking around in heels like that.

^ I think AzTheta is confused. She says she is from out of state, explains the Colorado. She is going to Mizzou for school, which is the mid-west. My cousin went to Mizzou, though a while ago, I'll ask her if she has any advice for you!

I'm thinking that feathers/tinsel might not be as bad as the shoes in the pref example picture. But that's just me.

Um yes. Because you actually rode in an El Camino. :D :D

That dress might be ok on someone a little less, umm, bodacious. Maybe this girl has a personality that allows her to get away with it, but we don't know that in a picture.
