Question about A Recommendation
Hi everyone!
I had a quick question: One of my family members was a KKG but I guess she was in the chapter before it was nationally known as KKG. Would she be counted as a KKG when she helps me with a recommendation or does it not count since her sorority wasn't called KKG until later? Thank you so much for your help! :) |
Do you mean that she was in a "local" that was taken over by KKG after she was in school? If so, she would have had to go back and be initiated into KKG to be considered a member. If she didn't do that, then she isn't a KKG and you'll need to find someone else to do that rec.

Let me try to make sense of this. You have a family member who was in a local sorority that became a Kappa chapter? If she has a Kappa key and is a member in good standing, then she's a Kappa. If she calls herself a Kappa because her local chapter eventually became one, then no. However, your family member should know that and makes me wonder what's up. If she was offered the opportunity to alumna initiate because of her situation but never got around to it, she's not a Kappa.
If you are thinking your family member is not being fully legit, ask to see her pin. If she "lost it" or never got one, then you have your answer. |

My badge is currently at HJ for repairs and before that, was broken for a year and never worn. I guess I'm a perp.
Obviously, asking to see a badge and someone not being able to produce one doesn't = not a Kappa. Conversely, being able to produce one doesn't make you one either. You can buy Kappa keys online. Even if her local ended up BECOMING a Kappa chapter, that doesn't mean she's a Kappa. She had to have been initiated into Kappa when the chapter became part of KKG. Really, the only way to ensure someone's legitimacy is via Kappa's national online directory. However, many NPC sororities' directories are available to sisters only. |
I also believe that Kappa doesn't (or didn't - don't know if they still don't) require new initiates to purchase a badge.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I was able to contact my family member (what a concept right? Sometimes we get swept up thinking everyone has the answers on here) and I guess her sorority was Zeta Kappa before it (and the rest of Pepperdine's sororities) went national. Unfortunately it doesn't count like others ^^ have said so I'll browse around for a different rec! Thanks again!
