Sorry to the very worthy Greek groups nominated, but I just don't think I can vote for something called the "Classy Award," sponsored by a group called "Stay Classy."

Mystic, I felt the same way, but voted anyway! I don't know this organization, but it required very little of me, and hey, maybe it will help some of my sisters. I'm assuming that since I got it in a blast from fraternity headquarters that it's more or less legit. Of course, saying that I sound stupid.... could have checked for myself but didn't.

That was the first thing that came to my mind!

Mystic and Dubai, I can understand your skepticism but I want to assure you that we are 100% legitimate. I am an intern for StayClassy here in San Diego (I am also a Sigma Nu at UC San Diego).

StayClassy is a web-based software company which helps Nonprofits organize and manage their operations. The CLASSY Awards is our annual Philanthropic Awards Show. This year it's on September 17th at the San Diego Civic Center. You can check us out at http://stayclassy.org and http://classyawards.org.

There are indeed a number of Greek orgs nominated in the "Most Influential College Student or College Organization" category this year. You can vote at http://vote.stayclassy.org

Thanks!

I'm not skeptical at all. I'm just commenting on the truly horrible names "Stay Classy" and "Classy Awards."

People (and organizations) with true class never claim it for themselves, much less talk about being "classy." As far as I'm concerned, use of the word "classy" is pretty much a dead give-away that there's not any real class involved.

DrPhil 08-04-2011 04:02 PM

With all due respect, this is dumb.

dkorff 08-04-2011 06:38 PM

Mystic, I apologize for implying that you were skeptical.

I just want to clarify that we are not claiming class for ourselves. Our business name (StayClassy) was chosen to reflect the classiness of the organizations and individuals we serve. Through The CLASSY Awards we are trying to recognize those who truly do have class.

We sincerely hope you will judge the nominees according to the quality of their achievements and not based on our naming.

Here's my info if anyone is interested:
David Korff
Community Manager, StayClassy
dkorff@stayclassy.org

Edit: Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions or concerns.

David, I want to make clear that I do indeed judge organizations and individuals according to the quality of their achievements and good works, and I applaud efforts to recognize them.

When I first posted, I was merely making a joke. At this point, all I'm trying to do is give you some feedback on my reaction to your business's name and your award's name: In my opinion, it's tacky and makes a terrible first impression. In my opinion, "the Classy Awards" sounds like a running SNL joke (see Ron Burgundy reference), not like an actual honor. Obviously, others may not share my opinion, but I would not consider it an honor to win an award for being "classy" -- I'd be a bit embarrassed. (That is making the giant assumption, of course, that anyone would be misguided enough to think that such an award should be given to me.)

But I did vote.
