Bathroom flooring material and color
Redoing master bathroom and need advice on what materials and color. I want tile but hubby says too cold on feet. I know we have to consider new owner.
For walls...thinking light or medium gray or brown (which seems to be very popular now). Don't want too different from bedroom builder beige. Wish we could paint bedroom but too much of a pain/hassle because of high ceiling. |
What does your husband propose instead of tile? Carpet? Ugh! Get a bath mat for his feet. As for paint, go to Benjamin Moore and get sample cards in the color families you are thinking of using. Match them to your bedroom paint so you find a color that blends. You don't have to use that paint vendor...Home Depot can match it, but B Moore has the most options I've found.

I have heated bathroom tiles in mine- have you looked at those?

I have tile in my bathroom, and it's not cold. We have a white tile with a gray grout and I think it looks great. As for your bathrooms walls..... keep it neutral. Any walls you're going to go to the trouble to paint should be super neutral. I just painted my bathroom a light blue last fall, and my Realtor said "uh-uh, paint it white or beige." So it's becoming the same color beige the bedroom is. Not my cup of tea, but my opinion doesn't matter anymore, prospective buyers/renters are what matter.

We have tile and love it (it's a neutral tan spa-feeling tile). Just get bathmats, and tell him to only step on those when coming out of the shower since they get a bit slippery.

We're in the process of redoing the (only) full bath on the main floor. We ripped out the ugly pink '50s era stuff and doing a more neutral bath.
We chose a white/gray porcelain tile with light gray grout and my husband put down a heated flooring system before he laid the tile. He installed white beadboard halfway up the wall and then we'll paint the top half a gray/blue color. Faucets and accessories are all oil-rubbed bronze and the sink, tub, toilet are all white. It's only about halfway done but I think it's going to be a big improvement over what it was. |
DPhil, you and my MiL would get along swimingly. HGTV and TLC are the only channels she watches, aside from the occasional home shopping network show. I loathe those channels. We go to their house, and I can't watch more than 30 minutes without going crazy.

I LOVE those shows! I have already gotten in touch with them to find out when the Yard Crashers/House Crashers/Bath Crashers etal would be in my neck of the woods (they wouldn't tell). I would sleep on the sidewalks of Home Depot to have someone help me control my back yard - especially for free!

Must admit, there is nothing like HGTV when you are battling insomnia. But honestly, if I see one more concrete gray mixed with a soupcon of mold color that the designer says, "see how this color brings warmth to the room", I'm going to throw a shoe at the tv. I am also starting to see some paint trends that look suspiciously like the mauves and peach/pinks that were popular in the 80's...AAUUGGHHHHH!

Thanks, y'all. We'll see what we end up with.

There is hope! Found some tile that we both liked. I was afraid he was going for linoleum or sheet stuff, but it would cost a lot to get it professionally done. Whew!
Picked out a new shower door (ours is GROSS!) and paint chips. |
are you looking to sell your house?

Even if we don't sell, they have GOT TO GO, lol. |
