Fitting In
I just pledged a sorority and I don't fit in. I have tried to be patient in hopes that things will get better but they haven't. The problem is that I am realizing that everything we are suppose to stand for is non existent with my chapter. Don't get me wrong I love the sorority itself but my chapter has been only about parties and gossip. Any advice?:(

I'm so sorry to hear that :(
How long have you given it? Have you gone out of your way to try to befriend girls, be active and social? Can you potentially get into a leadership position (does NOT have to be exec! you can be a leader without being the president!) where you have power and can help change your chapters culture? |
Have you initiated yet? Maybe it would be best to not go through in the hopes that you'll find somewhere you're more comfortable. However, do remember that the girls in the chapter wanted you, and that does mean something. Best of luck.

Ummmm...it's July. How did you "just pledge" a sorority?
|
Fall 2010 guess the word "just" doesn't apply. But I have tried changing myself, holding positions, and talking to the ring leader of all the gossip.
|
What position(s) did you hold? Or were you just not elected? Have you addressed the leaders in the chapter? Is there truly not a single person in your chapter who gives a shit about living your founders' values?
|
Positions include fundraising and public relations. Individually the girls are nice but the president is the common factor whenever there is a problem so its more so the leader.

Is this an NPHC group or NPC?

NPHC

Is everyone having a problem with the president or just you? If she is truly tearing the organization apart, your constitution/bylaws should have rules for impeachment.
You need to discuss this with your advisor. |

Long story short: Life happens. Perhaps you were not the observant aspirant. You will figure it out. Good luck to you. |
Not sure if its everyone. To elaborate each week a different girl is on the outs its like she picks a girl and then thats the target and everyone eles joins in because she's the president and if you do have the nerve to speak up then your next. I thought maybe it was their way of hazing but now i'm not sure.
