GC Poster Receives Top Sigma Chi Honor
 

Just wanted to share the news that a GC contributor, MiamiSig, was inducted into Sigma Chi's Order of Constantine. The OC is the highest award for Sigma Chi alumns. It is given to a member who has dedicated at least 20 years of active service to the fraternity.

Congratulations, MiamiSig! This is truly an honor.

I am sorry to report that MiamiSig, Julio Varela, recently passed away.

It's very easy to say nice things about someone after they've died, but Julio was truly a nice man and very dedicated to Sigma Chi. Julio was the chair of our New Chapter Development Committee at the time of his death. Previously he had been a Grand Praetor (overseeing the Southern Florida province) and a Grand Trustee of the fraternity. It would be almost impossible to list all of the other ways that Julio dedicated himself to Sigma Chi.

He hadn't posted on GC in a while, but I did not want his passing to go unnoticed. Julio was a great guy and I will miss him.

Wow, what horrible news. May he rest in peace and his loved ones find peace during this difficult time.
