7 Hour Meeting

Hi all, I just got out of a 7 hour meeting (it's 2:30am as I type this.) We had elections and there was alot to talk about for all 8 officers, and several close close calls. Has anyone ever had a similarly long meeting? I'd like to think we set a record.

Yah we have one just about as long each year for officer elections. There are like always 7 guys running for each office they talk and we discuss ,it takes forever. I don't miss those days.

Yeah boy. We had a THROW DOWN in meeting one night. The roof was about to come off that place. Had I not been a KA, I wouldnt have wanted to have been within a 100 miles of where we were meeting. It was insane. When it was over we decided to stay and have a pass the gavel, and just let it all out, and not be doing it on KA time. Well, meeting starts at nine, and I called my girlfriend at 4 30 to tell her that I was on my way home.....

I would fall asleep in a meeting that long! The longest I have ever been in was 4 1/2 hours.

AGH don't tell me this elections in my house are tonight! I am running for public relations! I don't remember how long elections went last yr I think only three hours! Three long hours!

Are the meetings so long because of speeches? We have a "primary" before final elections to narrow down to two candidates. Then only those two give speeches. We have found that this works really well. We went to this system my junior year. It is also good because the winner gets over 50% of the vote. With seven people someone could get 15% and win. That innevitably causes problems later.

The "primary" is a great idea! I need to suggest that to my chapter.

Yes and no: We only had at the max 3 canidates running for each office, mostly 2. They would each make 5 minute speeches, then we would get a question answer part for each canidate. After that, we'd discuss with all the canidates out of the room, every brother getting a minute if they wanted it. Speeches/Q&A took about 30-45 minutes, and with 32 men in the chapter, it took another 20 at least to go around the room.

Giving everyone a minute sounds like it adds on time, but I really like it, cause that way everyone gets their chance to speak, we have some quieter guys who really need that opportunity to speak up, and some louder guys who need that minute to contain themselves.

Give a time limit on speaches and it goes by a lot better and faster! Stick to the time limit!:D

The reason i had a 14 hr meeting was deciding who we would affiliate with, SO that was the most important meeting in our short history as a local!
