Spring/Fall initiation lines question
 

Hello. New to this.

My question I have for you all is this: in regards to the divine 9 sororities and fraternities, is it possible to have two initiation lines in the same calendar year? For example, if alpha phi alpha had a spring 11 initiation, is it possible to also have a fall 11 initiation? Or must the second initiation wait until spring 12? Are there any stipulations towards the notion? Thank you for your responses.

I believe the answer is yes - if a chapter wants to have a spring line and a fall line, they do so.

NPC chapters do this all the time - a chapter can participate in formal recruitment in the fall, and if eligible, hold an informal recruitment in the spring (or vice versa at a school with deferred recruitment).

I'll merge back into my own lane now, and let an actual NPHC GLO member give a better answer.

It depends on the organization (first) then the school's rules, and in some cases, the chapter's preference.

Some schools only have spring lines (Howard). Others only have fall lines (Norfolk State used to do this).

Some chapters only want spring lines. Some only want fall lines. Sometimes they want one, then change their mind and start doing the other.

In APhiA, we allow for both a spring and fall intake if the chapter wants and the school allows.

Actually, you asked about calendar year and not academic year. My answer is MOSTLY the same. In APhiA, we allow it.

Actually, NSU's policies have changed and per school rules chapters can only hold intake in Spring semester now. (that is for both NPHC and CIO organizations)

Which is why I said "used to do this."
