Sophomore rushing
Hello!
I'm going to be a sophomore at Berkeley this coming fall, and I'm interested in rushing a sorority. But, I have one problem. While I was very into clubs and extra-curricular activities in high school, throughout my first year in college I had some medical issues that kept me from joining and/or keeping up with clubs. I had recurring flare-ups of illness and some immune system issues. Everything has been under control since about April, and it looks as though I'll be healthy for the foreseeable future. But I'm afraid that my lack of involvement on-campus will be seen as a weakness during recruitment. I focused what little energy I had on doing well in school and doing low-key things with friends, and got good grades, at least. But, should I explain that I was sick for a majority of my freshman year, or would that just be considered as making excuses for myself? I guess what I'm trying to say is, how should I handle this? Should I even bring it up at all? Also, any other pointers for rush would be greatly appreciated. I've already been looking through some of the big posts with advice. If anyone goes to Berkeley here, and has specific advice, that'd be awesome too. Thanks! :) |
Okay, thanks for the tips! :) How familiar are you with Cal? From what I've heard so far, two or three houses only take a handful of sophomores but the other houses are much more laid-back when it comes to that sort of thing. We'll see how it goes!
