Worried!
I think I may have a problem, but I'm really stuck on what to do.
I recently registered with my local alumni group a few weeks ago to help out with recs and stuff, but I haven't received any confirmation after sending in my packet? There is nothing on their website about actually receiving something that says "Hey! You registered!" but in circumstances like this, I'm just thinking it would be common courtesy to send me an e-mail, something in the mail, a phone call-- just something to let me know they got my packet. I sent in my packet VERY close to the deadline, so this is definitely why I'm really anxious for confirmation. I'm really scared that they might not have received it and I'm going to go into rush with zero recs which will be terrible especially since I'll be at a very competitive SEC school. So, would it be a bad idea to contact the director? I really hate to come off as rude/annoying, but I'm just reaaaaalllyyyy nervous!! Thank you in advance! |
They will probably not acknowledge. Go ahead and call the director...it couldn't hurt. She may not actually be the one that received it, but she can either check for you, or give you that person's name.
Let me guess...your competetive SEC school is Auburn?!?:p |
You can follow up with an e-mail to be sure everything was received. That should not be a problem.

Is there a contact person for the alum group? You might be able to find a phone number or e-mail for a person who is responsible for this specific aspect of the group's activities, or you might be able to find the contact info for any officer. A politely worded e-mail or a friendly phone call simply to ask for confirmation will not come across as rude or annoying. Communication is a good thing!
Take a deep breath! |
I would've definitely sent an e-mail if there was one listed, but there wasn't. Anyway, thank you guys!! :)
Oh, and AnchorAlumna... Yep, Auburn it is haha... I bet it was realllly hard to figure out :p |

You have a much bigger problem in not having one rec for Auburn. Am I reading this correctly? Get busy. Right now. Ask everyone you can think of to help you get those recs. They are a must for Auburn. I am not trying to scare you but rush will not be a pleasant experience there with no recs. |

Relax a little! I know the alumnae group....it'll be taken care of. But it's OK if you want to call or e-mail to make sure.
Did you make up some extra packets? Because you're bound to run across sorority alumnae who are friends of your parents, or your teachers who are alumnae, who will offer to write you a recommendation. Smile and say thank you, and hand them a packet with all your info! And don't forget to write a thank-you note. It's much appreciated! |
Glad to read I've misread that. It sounds like you have done your homework, even if it was at the last minute. I talked to several girls today that haven't even started getting their packages sent. Give your group a polite call to follow up, maybe ask if there is anything else they need. And write them a thank you note if you haven't already done it.
|
Oh, I will be definitely writing a thank you note!
Once again, thank you ladies for your encouragement and advice! I'm super-duper grateful for this site! :) |
If you are going to follow up with them via email, may I make a few suggestions? The word is alumnae for plural women "alums." And it's presumably not an alumnae group, it's a Panhellenic alumnae group, organization or association. This really isn't as hair-splitty as it may seem. The words you were using made it a bit hard to figure out what you were asking, and you will sound more professional/polished, by using the right terminology. Before contacting them, make sure you know who you are actually contacting so you can address them accordingly.

Of course I don't know where you are, but my North Alabama alumnae group is meeting this week to write recs from the Panhellenic packets and we feel like we are meeting a little late. Several other sorority groups have already gotten together. Of course we will still write recs for girls up to the last minute, but you really do need to keep asking around for people who can write you a personal rec. On the other hand, my daughter actually preffed a group at Auburn that she did not have a personal rec for (we assume someone wrote one from the alumnae association through the Panhellenic packet.) So don't panic and War Eagle!
