Harry Potter!
 

I took my little sisters to see the Harry Potter movie today and I must say I really enjoyed it! it was almost exactly like the book!! If you havent seen it or read the book you should. :) It's a great movie!! Has anyone else seen it yet? If so what did you think?

I just got home from seeing it and I really liked it, too!
However, a lot of the critics were saying that this will be a children's classic on par with "The Wizard of Oz"...and I don't agree with that. The Wizard of Oz is still more fun to watch.
My husband has read all the books, and he enjoyed it, but he said the book was much better because no special effects can really compete with your imagination.

But all in all, a very entertaining movie. Go see it!

Something about anyone over 11 shouldn't ge going to see harry potter.

I just saw it this weekend with my friend and boyfriend. I was so impressed--it was like the book. I think my friend and I were more excited than the little kids in the theater. I can't wait for the next movie!

Haha Jess I know guys just dont understand it at all! But Im taking my guy to see it this week:) haha I told him Iwas paying so he has to see whatever I say!!:D

I love it! I saw it couple days ago, and really awesome movie. I *think* I am the only non-teenager there at the movie, but who cares, I was cheering and enjoying the movie!

For scale 1 to 10, with 10 as the best movie, I would rank it 9 3/4 :D

I haven't read the book, but we took our kids to see the movie and my son said the same thing. It was a good movie (I'd looove to have it on DVD). But... I didn't know it was going to be so long!
Anyway, it kept the kids interested, so it gets a thumbs up from me.

Harry Potter is SATANIC!

Harry Potter is soo not satanic! Whatever I am so sick of people thinking that crap.

Some facts...
 

Fact #1: Harry Potter is a fictional character. He is not real. None of the other characters or events in the books or movies are real either.

Fact #2: Magic is not real. Sorcerers and Wizards are not real. If you think otherwise, then your doctor gives you better prescriptions than mine does.

----- Corollary to Fact #2: Children are not stupid. They can understand that magic isn't real. They don't think that they can really cast spells or fly on a broom.

Fact #3: In the Harry Potter stories, the nice people "win" at the end. Harry succeeds by making friends and working hard (i.e. good virtues).

Fact #4: Harry Potter is a children's story. It is not a religious doctrine.

Most of the complaints about Harry Potter that come from the fundamentalistic, conservative religions claim that the stories' use of sorcery, magic, etc. will "tempt" children into joining satanic cults or trying to practice "black magic." Have these people never heard of C.S. Lewis? Lewis was one of the greatest Christian writers and theorists of all time. Clearly a man truly devoted to God. He was also the author of the Narnia series - "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."

OH MY!!!! :eek: MAGIC!!!! :eek: Not to mention witches, talking animals (must be possessed by Satan!), time travel, spells, and more.

What most people forget is that the Harry Potter books are getting kids to READ instead of rotting their little brains out with TV. If you can get a kid to read one book and really enjoy it, then you can get them into another book, and another. Have you people SEEN what crap is on TV lately? Drives me nuts that the same close minded twits that won't let their kids read Harry Potter because he's "evil" :rolleyes: don't carefully monitor their kids' TV watching (or internet use, for that matter).

There is no sex in Harry Potter. No one gets their head blown off and brains splattered on the wall. No nuclear bombs are dropped, no airplanes crash into buildings.

I say, I hope there are 1,000 more Harry Potter books! The world will be a better place for it.

My son gave me the first book in the series-got half way through last night. I love it. Such an easy read, but so creative.
If this won't excite a child to open a book, I don't know what will!

Walt Disney believed in majic and Tinkerbelle so why shouldn't we?

I can't wait for book 5!

On the other side...I LLLOOVVVEDD Monster, Inc.!! Boo is soooo cute! Although I'd see HP2, we are going to see MI again first, lol!!

Umm, not a big fan of tv either. Children need to be outside playing ball or something. Not inside watching tv, reading, or playing videogames. Or, they may end up like me! :eek:

I just took some of the kids to see Harry Potter tonight and we give it six thumbs up! I didn't want to read the books and someone convinced me and all I have to say is that the author is a master of detail!

Anyway, I realized as the new people were being sorted that much of Harry Potter is like Greek life. See, Dumbledore tells them as they enter the hall that their "house" will be their family for the next several years. Then they're sorted (like rush) and then they have activities that correspond to intramurals, secret passwords, colors, and so forth.

An ex-roommate from the UK told me that boarding schools there and in Australia have many Greek-like attributes. There are "better" and "worse" houses or clubs that you can be chosen for and there's very much a legacy system. We were amazed by the similarities!
