Reader's Digest article about 12 SDT Alumnae

If you can find a RD to grab, there's a great story about twelve women "who used to (their words, not mine) be in a sorority" who come together annually to help people in the devastated area from Katrina.

I finally found out that they are members of SDT. But several times, they are mentioned as "former" members or that the "were sisters" then but not so much now. That part bugged me.

Aside from that, it's a good story. Well, if you look past the opening paragraph that described these women who would normally be getting their nails done rather than who they had become: women who help families in need by sending computers, school uniforms and needs to a particular family, and working with Habitat for Humanity to rebuild the family's home.

They did write that the women become the same "girls" they were when they met their freshman year of college, which was sweet. Anyone else catch this article?

I think it's a bit sad that they aren't (or don't consider themselves to be) still SDT

I'm betting this is more from the writer's point than theirs. Many non-Greeks just don't "get it" as far as membership being for life (whether you're active in an alumnae chapter or not). They say you "were" Greek just like you "were" student senate president or a football player.

Also, a lot of Greeks themselves don't know the proper terminology. I've even heard active alums say "I was an ABC in college."

It is nice to see something positive written about Greek membership. Without it, they wouldn't have been the group they are today, forty years later.
