question for other bloggers
I have been blogging for awhile using Wordpress. I don't get a lot of spam, and the few spam messages that do come in are usually caught by the Wordpress program. However, recently I've been getting messages marked as spam that seem relevant and actually comment upon my post. (Usually spam is a bunch of junk...not a real comment.) BUT...the person who posts is directing readers to a website that is really just a real estate website. Do you think I should let these messages stay since they do make sense or just ditch them like every other piece of spam? Thoughts?

It's stealth marketing. Which is just another kind of spam (more annoying IMO, since it "pretends" to be relevant). Get rid of it if you have a no-spam policy.
We get it on here too...someone posts a comment that sort of pertains to a Greek or other topic, but then all their other posts are about a movie that's coming out or something of the like. They get gone quickly as this is one of my pet peeves. :) |
I agree with 33. I've received a few of these, and realized that the only reason they made a comment is to spam. It may look like a real comment, but it's usually not. I'd rather have no comments than these faux comments.

PS: To the original poster, if your not using the Askimet plug-in yet, I highly recommend it.. It's the best anti-spam plugin for WordPress by far. |
Thanks for the replies! I do have Askimet, and it does do a great job of weeding out spam. I guess that is why this recent few comments had me a bit confused. Spam or not spam? I decided to delete them.
Thanks! |
