Actor Jeff Conaway in a Coma

Actor Jeff Conaway is hospitalized and in a coma after an apparent drug overdose. I remember him from 2008 Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. God bless him.

Looks like they'll be taking him off life support soon.
What a shame :-( I used to love watching Taxi when I was little.

ABC news just announced that he died at 10:30 am today.

I'm definitely planning on watching Grease this weekend...

DrPhil 05-27-2011 03:53 PM

Rest in peace.

I wonder if Dr. Drew will talk about this on his show.

Rest in Peace. Taxi, Grease and B-5 all playing in head right now.

Drolefille 05-27-2011 04:19 PM

That's sad. I liked him on Babylon 5 before realizing he'd also been in Grease and Taxi and when I saw a few episodes of the Celebrity Rehab, it was pretty saddening.

He's the second Celebrity Rehab participant to pass away just lately (Mike Starr was the first). Which IMO pretty much confirms that the show is a piece of shit.

... He died from sepsis after being admitted for pneumonia.
I mean, I'm not condoning his drug use or saying his death and his drug use were completely exclusive of each other, but saying the show is a "piece of shit" because a former cast member died is just kinda silly...

^^ It's more that the show is exploitive of people with serious addiction and/or mental health issues. Watching him on it was incredibly sad. At the same time, I wonder if it drives the issue home since sometimes it takes a famous person suffering from X to bring awareness to X.

Sadly I think it's more likely that it's just voyeurism.

Okay, I gotcha.
I read it as "well the show doesn't cure everyone because people are dying so it's shit."

DF is right - I think the show is more voyeurism and sadly, some of the participants are going on it not with any intention of getting well but to try and revive their careers. Which makes it shit.
