Univ of TX Rush

My son will be a transferring as a sophmore next fall and would like to go through rush with several frats. Can anyone tell me the process to make this happen? How does it work for the guys? Does it only take a phone call to the rush captain to get them on a list or what can I do to help the him with this? Thanks for any and all help or advice.

If your son is really interested in joining a fraternity, he should do the research himself. Can you imagine how embarrassing it would be for him if people found out his mom was doing research on fraternity rush on his behalf? Just saying..

There is a lovely lady who has sons in fraternities at U of Texas. Maybe she will come on and help you all out.

victoriana, I'm simply asking for help on the rush process at ut. he's in another state and taking finals and I told him I'd see what I could do to start things going.

If you're asking for knowledge's sake so you can fill him in, that's fine. If you even want to look up their phone numbers online for him, that's fine too.

But please do not call the fraternities yourself. Eeek, I'm cringing with embarassment just thinking about that concept.

He needs to do this for himself when he gets home. He's already behind and nothing you can do will "help." Time to man up.

Why are you laughing? That's what they're usually called in Texas. Is it something different elsewhere or is it just that other areas don't have such a defined process?

Do you mean "at Texas"? I haven't heard that term before either.

I've heard of Rush Chair, Rush Coordinator... just not Rush Captain. And it just made me giggle a bit.

Interesting. I spend a lot of time at all of the large TX schools (and live in DFW, so spend even more time at SMU and TCU), but I have only heard "Rush Chair" or the like.

Thanks

I think some use rush chairman as the main organizer and rush captain on the local area level (like "Joe is the Houston area rush captain.") But rush captain is also used for the main guy as well.

I always thought rush captain was a very common term in the South, specifically talking about guys who do local rush events for their chapter.

Girls use it too - I remember that rush book from the 1980s and one of the girls who wrote it was described as the rush captain of her group. It's not a term I have ever heard anywhere in the Northeast.
