Self Addressed Envelope?
 

So I feel dumb for asking this question but I'm putting my packet of information (resume, pictures, etc) to send to sorority alumni so they can write a letter of recommendation for me. From what I've gotten out of Greek Chat and others, I'm sending a "self addressed envelope" with my packet so the alumni member doesn't have to use their stamps/envelope to send my letter of recommendation to the school I'm rushing at. Does this mean that my name and address go at the top left corner of that envelope? Or the alumni's?

1) It's alumnae for plural and alumna for singular sorority members. If it's a mixed group, plural, it's alumni. If it's male singular, it's alumnus.

2) The outside envelope will look like this.

Your name (STAMP)
Your address

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Their name
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Their address

The "self-addressed" envelope looks like this:

Their name (stamp)
Their address

Some thoughts -- but the best answers are likely to come from alumnae and from actives in the sororities at the school you'll be attending............

1. Recommendations may or may not go to "the school." In many cases, they are sent to the chapter, not to an office at the school. However, some sororities in some areas make arrangements to have all the recs for a particular city or group of cities/suburbs to be gathered together and sent to the chapter at a particular school. In cases like that, there's obviously the issue of routing it before it actually is sent to the chapter.

You could just leave the envelope blank and let the alumna send it to the correct address for your/her situation. She can get the "right" address from her sorority.

2. It would be the alumna's address, BUT alumnae may have varying preferences, such as home, business or professional office, PO box, and so on.

Again, you best bet may be to leave it blank and let the alumna decide on the return address she wants to use.

Just thoughts; as I said, others may have better / more targeted answers.

Most of the time, at least as I understand it, a copy of the recommendation will not be sent to you -- recs are communications between the rec writer and the chapter.

When I have several recs to send to a particular chapter I send them all in one manila envelope. I hate to not use an addressed, stamped envelope included in a packet, but I know it makes it easier for the rec chairman to have them all together. What I REALLY appreciate is the women who include a thank you note in their packets - especially if they go to the trouble to find out who is responsible for collecting the material for the APH and address it personally to me. VERY nice way to stand out from the get-go.

NO! NO! NO!

The PNM does NOT receive the recommendation! Alumna sends the rec directly to the sorority chapter! These addresses usually can be found online.

Txd, since you're in the process of getting your packets ready to mail you've alredy gotten your daughters resume's ready. I'm having a problem deciding what activities to include. I feel what I think is important may not be to sorority members and that I might leave out something that IS important. How did the two of you decide what to include? How long was the finished resume? I have always heard that more than a page is too long and if I include everything that Ive participated in and done in the past 4 years, mine is almost 3 pages. Any advice is helpful. Thanks!

My resume was two full pages. My local panhellenic stressed not to have more than that. They said that employment information should be listed but it's not nearly as important as any leadership roles you took on in high school. I'm president of my school's Debate team so I listed a few of my top achievements, while for my employment section I simply listed how long I had worked there.
