research on American sororities
Hello!
I am doing a research on American and Estonian sororities. I would like to compare the results with the members of Estonian sororities. So please answer the questions in the survey: http://www.kwiksurveys.com?s=ICKDGK_e3766364 It takes less than 5 minutes. Thank you! :) |

When asking people to complete a survey whether through a survey handout, email distribution, or message board (I don't like message board distribution but apparently I need to get with the times), it is a good idea to provide background to not only your study but also to who you are. I was expecting an introduction page to the survey when I clicked on it. Instead, I found a statement of how many questions there were and how long the survey would take. So, I changed my mind about completing the survey and closed the tab. Good luck to you, though. |
The how many people in your sorority do you consider to be your true friends probably needs to be controlled by chapter size in some way. It will result in bad data.

Thank you for the advice, but I cannot make any changes anymore.
Perhaps it is not the best survey in the world but it gives me the answers that I need :P. The question about true friends is not really to find out how many friends people have in sororities but just to get a general overview. I already know that American sororities are much bigger than in Estonia. I just want to see how the answers of Americans and Estonians differ. So something about me… :) My name is Laura and I am a student from Estonia. I am also a member of a sorority in Estonia, therefore, I find it really interesting to see how similar those organizations really are. My research actually focuses on the traditions and values of Estonian and American sororities. If you have any further questions than just ask! Thank you to those who take the time to complete the survey! :) |
I assume you are an undergraduate student. Is this research for a class, an undergraduate thesis, or for your personal research development/projects? Are you working with an advisor or a research mentor?
I'm just interested in the background of your study interest (beyond being in a sorority in Estonia) and your survey design method. :) Is this the first wave of surveys with which you will determine how to re-design the survey for future distribution? |

There are so many variables that it's almost impossible to call something the "American sorority experience." |
Yes, I am an undergraduate student and this research is part of a class project.
Most of my research actually consists of an analysis of a written text. So I am not sure yet whether to use the results of the survey in the research or not. First I’m going to see how the answers differ from my previous research. But there’s not going to be any wave of surveys :P. If I decide to add the questionnaire part in my research then I’m going to use the results of this survey. :) As I am analyzing traditions and values, I do not consider the size of a sorority as a very important aspect of my research. It is just a general question to see if someone thinks that she has more than 20 true friends. |
More on survey design and distribution since you brought this here and didn't only distribute this where you can more predict the demographics of respondents:
Many people on Greekchat haven't been in college for years but remain active in their fraternities and sororities. I could respond as I would when I was in college or as I feel now. I think you are looking for the similarities and differences in collegiate sororities in America and Estonia on college women. But, if you are also looking at the general sorority experience, the range in replies will provide insight on both. Just something to think about as you read the range of replies. :) |
^^ She also posted it on the sorority life forums for the facebook game. It was deleted. I only know this due to Google, I swear
|
I tried to post it on different places. As I said it doesn't play a big role in my research but I just want to know the general opinion. :)
