Hello, I'm a member of Wine Psi Phi Social Fraternity, Inc. Founded March 2, 1959 at Howard University. I have seen some of the crude remarks some have made regarding our official title among other things. Let me set the record straight. We are not a subrosa group. We do in fact have a national website www.winepsiphi.org and we are having our national convention 29 April through May 1 2011. Some of you from various HBCU's up and down the Atlantic Coast Seaboard remember when we ruled many campuses. One campus Cheyney State now Cheyney University had as many as 140 brothers on the campus at one time. Can any of the Greek organizations say that! Nonone can say that. We weren't about drinking but yet we did the same things all the Greeks did but we excelled at it because we were about a true brotherhood instead of varying personas. So those that make these comments understand that we are a viable threat to all organizations that don't practice true brotherhood. We don't beat you with the paddle or force you to drink or belittle you. We help you become a man with knowledge. The only want to experience true brotherhood is to become a member of Wine Psi Phi, Inc. This is what makes us different than many organizations out there. Visit our web page and see for youself. This is like Groove Phi Groove and Swing Phi Swing. I respect them for being what they are and not shying away from that. Most Grooves and Swings know "their place," though. :) I hope I can say the same for "the Wines."

The person who called your group subrosa is not only a non-entity, he said it eleven years ago. Congrats on your revival and on your upcoming national convention.

At least 6 fraternities at Arkansas can say that alone.

And all 8 or 9 sororities.

I believe he was talking about the NPHC chapters at Cheyney University.

From what I can see, they are no longer recognized by Cheyney University so I don't know why pointing out having as many as 140 brothers at one time (how long ago was that?) matters. And I'm not a fan of big NPHC chapters, anyway.

Dr.Phil, it is those misconceptions that give people the wrong idea about life and it's offerings. Because the organization has a name W.I.N.E. or Wine does not mean that they drink. And to be honest we all drink my friend. It has never been a focal point for Wine to be drinkers but to be thinkers. My point is Wine for in Wine Psi Phi stands for We Initiate New Experiences. Noting more nothing less. We are a nonprofit just like the majority of greek and non greek organizations. We have been committed to community services, mentoring programs, reading initiatives, aiding the needy and much more even today. We never stopped working under the name Wine Psi Phi. At this very moment we call this the reawakeining. Despite the reawakening we are still in touch with many communities we devoted our mission to over the years. So don't be so quick to judge us by that name Wine or think we are absent from the scene. Because we don't post it here does not mean we are absent from what we do. I personally implemented a Read to Suceed Initiative sponsored by Wine Psi Phi which you will find the details on our web page www.winepsiphi.org. Its an after School Program in South Carolina for elementary children and in time we will expand that initiative to some area public schools. As far as being recognized on Cheyneys' campus that's not exactly true. You're right we have no presence of members on Cheyneys' campus right now but that could change at any moment. We are not in a rush. We have other plans on the horizon. While I don't visit here often I wish to send you a message. "Stay Tuned!" Something new is coming your way! It's called The NEW!!! Wine Psi Phi. And for those that think we are drinkers have one on me. I enjoy a great shot of 15 year single malt scotch and a great hand rolled cubano fromtime to tim. Let your hair down and enjoy life a little. Maybe you will see the light at the end of the tunnel. Be careful, it could be that Wine Train heading your way. You're welcome to get on board. This is an organization that doesn't exist on most campuses (any campus?) and most people have never met a member (who admits being a member). They have a website but this Greekchat thread is what introduced many people to Wine Psi Phi in order to look at the website.

So, like I said, you are called "wine..." so don't wonder why people think "wine...they just drink together" and why you keep having to tell people you aren't about drinking. When people take the "wine" in your name literally, be patient and don't automatically think the people are being mean. You are an organization that most people have never heard of.

Greekchat wasn't talking about Wine Psi Phi before this thread was created so my posts can be taken as a lesson for life for Wine Psi Phi members who want to introduce their organization to people via the Internet and real life. Good luck to your organization and continue to do well in the community.

My friend is affiliated with this group. He really enjoys the experience and is up to the challenge of reclamation.

Congratulations on your reorganization. I feel like no one should hate on someone else's organization because it is different. One of the groups I'm a member of went from all male to co-ed in the 80's due to a Title Nine issue, and people judge us all the time because of that, without having any idea of how strong our bond is. Moral of the story, just because an organization is different from yours doesn't mean it's bad, strange, or lesser.

Thank all of you that support our efforts to revive our ourganization. To be honest we are all unique in our own ways. We happen to bear a name of a beverage. But broken down to those that want to know WINE stands for We Initiate New Experiences. We are truly more better on thinking than drinking. Actually, our organization was founded with a large emphasis on religion. We have many individuals the was lead into various faiths because of our organization. We are very commited to community service and we have a very strong concerns on the direction of our communities, our schools and our youths. And in addition to that our families. During this walk to revive our organization we will bring about that renewed commitment to assist where ever we can to help people. From education to religion we plan on having a positive effect. Our mission is very similar to many of you out there and it has always been.

Many of us had families, went into politics, medicine, taught school, and much more. So, we simply grew wiser. And now the evolution has awaken us and its time to get back to work. Many will say we're drunks and some may say worse things. But ask yourself this? What are you doing to help your neighbor or your community? I only hope that all of you give us your continued support and wish us much success in the Rebirth, Growth and Development of Wine Psi Phi Social Fraternity, Inc. Congrats on your reorganization efforts, but why are you still on the "we're not drinkers" tirade?

As DrPhil said months ago, many people are unaware of this organization, so all they have to go on is the name. If your name has "wine" in it, you can't be naive enough to think that people WON'T think about alcohol.

If I was a member of P.O.R.N. Delta Alpha, "Perfecting Our Religious Nuances" or whatever would not be the first thing that came to folks' minds.

You should be able to tell people about your organization without getting defensive and going on your "Welllll what are YOU doing for your community!? Stop thinking about alcohol when you think of us!!!!" rants.
