Junior?
I know to rush for a sorority I would have to wait until the fall, but I'm curious as to what other people think. I transferred to my current school Fall 2010, but wasn't sure whether or not I was going to stay, so I did not rush. Now that I know that I'm staying I want to rush, but I will be a junior next fall. I still have at least 2 years left here, but I didn't know if my chances of getting a bid would be hurt because of my academic standing. I would love to know what people think, or to hear from others who have rushed as a junior...
Thanks for any input!! |
It depends on what school you go to, at some schools, upperclassmen have no problem going through recruitment and receiving a bid but at others, it's virtually impossible. Also, if you do decide to go through as an upperclassmen, depending on the school you attend, you may/may not need recommendations. I would emphasize during recruitment that you still have 2 more years left in school.

Under RFM, even the struggling chapter has to cut pnms and juniors may be the first to go in initial rounds. Also, juniors may manage to drop the struggling chapter after the first round or two then get cut hard in later rounds, being left with no options. |

Talk with your greek life office and ask how many or what percentage of upperclassmen going through recruitment get bids. Ask if there's a separate upperclassmen quota. Signup for recruitment, be open to all chapters that ask you back, if you get dropped from all chapters, tell the greek life office that you're interested in COB. Make friends with sorority women in your classes and in your activities. Talk with sorority women that you see on campus now before the term ends and indicate your desire to know more.

But the point is still there that there are a lot of campuses where juniors would be welcomed. I'd ask around your campus a bit or ask the Greek life adviser. If they seem like they're really dancing around the issue, they're probably trying to not burst your bubble while still trying to say it's going to be a rough road. Even at the toughest campus it's POSSIBLE, but not likely. If you want to send a private, someone could probably give you a better idea, based on your campus.
