Please HELP - Sign Our Petition!!

Sisters - the Ladies of the Zeta Alpha Chapter are appealing the National Executive Committee's decision to cease operations. We are the 6th oldest chapter of Phi Mu that is still active AND if they do close our doors, it would be the oldest Phi Mu chapter closed to date (we chartered in 1916).

Please help us out, by signing our petition and spreading the word!!!

Here's a link to a story about why they are (tentatively) closing:

How does a petition actually help? If the issue comes down to numbers - which the article suggests it does - and the chapter is pursuing the relevant appeals process - which article states it is - no amount of 'support' is going to change minds over a financial necessity.

I mean, rah rah, go chapter go, and it sucks if you get shut down, but realistically the petition does nothing to help.

Especially a random online petition. Online petitions are just about meaningless.

That big physical house to support and only 14 members. It's sad when any chapter has to close, but I don't think any organization can afford to hemorrhage indefinitely. Is it possible to sell or lease the house and continue as an unhoused chapter?

I am sorry to see any chapter of any organization close, but IMHO, I would not feel comfortable signing a petition telling another GLO how to conduct their business/make decisions.

I agree. But to be fair, she did post this in the Phi Mu forum and her request is clearly directed to Phi Mus.

Thank you.

Back off, people.

Yep, I missed that it was in the Phi Mu forum. I'm usually more careful to check.

Phi Mu ladies, my apologies.

Very sad situation. I hate to see any chapter struggle.

Alas, the same difficulties with a petition still stand, whether signed by Phi Mu members or others.

Alas, let the Phi Mus worry about it.

Thank you for your concern. I did post this in the Phi Mu thread because I felt it was appropriate for sisters. However, there are other issues beyond the numbers that the article does not mention. If you are a Phi Mu, you know that National does not allow any comments about public relation issues from it's members. Therefore the referenced article is one sided. If you want to know more of the "behinds the scenes" details, please feel free to PM me.

In addition, we asked National what documents for the appeal would be helpful and they suggested a petition for an easy way to allow current students, faculty, staff, alums, family, and friends to give us support and express their opinions. We wouldn't waste our time and energy if we thought it wouldn't be helpful.

Don't bother defending yourself to the people making negative comments in this thread. They make negative comments in every thread.

Hmmm...really?

Anyway, she should not explain because this is a Phi Mu thread and Phi Mus are not the ones with the questions and comments. I also hope she is not responding to PMs that are not from Phi Mus.

Now I'm "letting" the Phi Mus have their thread. :)
