Another Miami U sorority mishap

A black cloud seems to hang over Miami University's sororities for their off-campus parties. This weekend a "party" boat in the Ohio River across from Cincinnati, carrying the Alpha Phis and their dates, broke loose and collided with -- guess what? Another "party" boat full of Gamma Phi Betas and their dates! No fault of either sorority, no serious injuries, but interesting turn of events.

Doesn't this belong in the rivalry thread? Alpha Phis versus Gamma Phi Betas.

I'm glad that no one was injured.

I read about this in the paper this morning and all I could think was, "at least they didn't trash the event space".

" One boat carrying the Alpha Phi sorority broke away from the dock, then hit a boat carrying the Gamma Phi Beta party.

Catherine Jones said her group was told earlier in the night that the cruise was canceled because of the weather, but that their party that included dinner and dancing on the boat would go on as scheduled."

Funny you should mention this - I immediately thought of the legend that says that Alpha Phi was responsible for the theft of everything laid out for the first post-initiation dinner for Gamma Phi except the peanuts and olives. So now Gamma Phis traditionally have peanuts and olives after initiation and sometimes during formal dinners. We have "The Peanut and Olive Song", but so far I'm the only member I've come across geeky enough to have memorized it. (Incidently, Alpha Phis, why couldn't you have left chocolates?!) LOVE MY SYRACUSE TRIAD SISTERS !

Another passive aggressive thread title. Has someone been playing soccer with Zippy Zamboni?

Wasn't it ErikaXO who had a post in the Weird Rush Stories thread about sorority members driving around town really fast to deliver PNMs to pref parties on time and 2 cars (DG and Alpha Phi maybe?) collided?

Yup. I remember reading that because it happened at my school. The way Fraternity Circle is, it's a blind curve going up a small hill to cul de sac where the houses are. So if you're driving, you can't see who is coming up as you're going around the bend to go down (and vice versa.)

Back when Erika was acive, the Rho Chis used to drive the PNMs to their different House Tours and Pref parties. Not every house is on that road and it's impossible for a PNM to WALK from a house on Fraternity Cir. to one that's on the other side of campus (ex: you can't walk from DG to AZD) I think the story was that 2 Rho Chis (an APhi and DG) got into an accident trying to drive girls across campus.

I'm pretty sure that's the reason that the PNMs have KSU campus buses to shuttle them to their parties now!

Yea, this has been in the Cincinnati papers. I felt sorry for APhi and Gamma Phi because once the boats moved, the girls and their dates had to stand still, put on flotation devices and just like that, party over. No misbehavior on the part of the sororities, but no formal party either, despite what I'm sure were substantial rental fees. I hope both groups get a generous refund from B&B Riverboats.
