Recommendation question!!

I'm rushing at the University of Texas where recruitment is very competitive. I know that unless you don't get a reference form for a sorority, you usually don't get invited back to the house. I was wondering if not having letters of support causes you to also not get invited back?

This is treading into Membership Selection territory. We do not discuss Membership Selection, PERIOD. No one will be able to give you the definitive answer you seek.

^^Yes!

The best advice we can give you is to do your best at finding alumnae from the sororities represented on campus and try to secure at least one recommendation to each one. There are many threads here that give great advice on the best way to find recommendations.

Best of luck! :)

No one can tell you for certain what each chapter's policy is re: girls who don't have recs.

I CAN tell you that the UT Panhellenic site basically says that you shouldn't expect an invite from a chapter if you don't have recs:

Please note: Although recommendations are optional to participate in UT Recruitment, the majority of houses cannot invite you back past open house and may have to release you from their house without having a recommendation letter for you. Thererefore, it is HIGHLY encouraged to get recommendation letters for all 13 sororities at UT.

It doesn't say anything about letters of support, BUT my impression is that letters of support are just that, SUPPORT. Letters of support are meant to supplement recs.

You're the boss.

I don't go to UT, but this is what I know from friends and family.

If you live in Texas you should really contact your local Area Panhellenic association. They seem to be really organized about recruitment. Granted I am most familiar with the one in Houston, and they do produce a Recruitment Guide for PNMs that has a lot of useful general information.

I suggest you get on google and search for the relevant group for your area.

eta: I saw some of your other posts and I see you have already contacted your local area panhellenic. If that is the case, you should really be asking them.

wldms... how did your Houston Panhellenic contact go? You should be pretty well lined out by now with recommendations.

If you've been following all the solid advice you've been given previously, including using the search function and thoroughly reading the recruitment section of GC, then you already know the answer to the question you posed.

Good luck.

Allrighty then. I was going to help answer your question but don't need the attitude. Good luck with your recruitment.

I was trying to be indirect, but send the same message. I see now that direct is what is needed.

OP has received a plethora of suggestions from all the posting she's done re:UT recruitment and recommendations. In one of her threads, I gave her the benefit of the doubt.

That benefit is now retracted. OP, if you have a lick of sense, stop posting repetitive questions (when answers can be had with a simple search) and rude retorts. And apologizing to people who've been nothing but cooperative and helpful wouldn't be a bad idea.

If your (written) attitude is a reflection of your personality and character, crystal ball says: you'll need a lot more than luck in recruitment at any university.

You can get cut for not having references. A letter of support is not a reference. A reference is a form that a sorority alumna fills out. The letters are set by other alumnae to supplement what is on that form. Your focus is getting references for each sorority. Once you secure at least one reference per chapter, you can focus on letters of support.

Be sure to register with the Alumnae Panhellenic in your hometown in TX.
