Rumor: New Sorority at UCF?

True or false? I'm very interested in which one if it's true :)

LOL, how would we know? Ask your Greek advisor.

As a general rule, I would assume NPC expansion rumors to be false until proved otherwise. People have been whispering it at my campus since I joined at least...

Has Panhellenic voted for expansion? Until they do, it's just a rumor.

According to our expansion thread (which is usually pretty accurate), UCF is open.

However, sororities have not been selected to present at this time. So we don't know "which one."

How it works: Interested NPC sorororities submit info to UCF, of those, the school chooses a few of them to come to UCF and make a presentation in front of the UCF Panhellenic. After the presentations, UCF will select which of those sororities will colonize at UCF and when.

Example: AAA, BBB, CCC, ZZZ, EEE submit info. UCF selects AAA, CCC, and ZZZ to present. After presentations, UCF decides to invite AAA to colonize in Fall of 2012 (or whenever.)

Damn. I definitely checked too. :o

No idea, but UCF is currently the 2nd largest school in the nation by enrollment. 10 years ago, quota was hovering near 70, with chapter total at 110 (?), and the addition of sororities was extremely productive to bring the size of the huge pledge classes back down to the 50s. Which is still too high, IMHO. I am all for expansion, and I think the school could stand to add several more sororities over the next few years.

ETA: There are currently 10 sororities at UCF, if anyone cares. ;)

I've heard they're bringing Delta Gamma back, I think they got disbanded a long time ago, so is that even possible?

Yes it's possible (any NPC sorority not at UCF currently may express interest in coming back there.) But that's beside the point.

They haven't even selected groups to present yet. So how can they be "bringing back DG?"

Do you not read?

I heard instead of bringing on a new chapter they're just going to split the largest chapter in TWO!

Let them fight over who gets to keep which letters?

Agreed. But just for fun... Wild Speculation Time! Everytime the word "expansion" is uttered, UCF sorority women (collegians and alumnae) are always heard saying that it would be great to welcome back home our AXO and DG chapters. The DG chapter recolonization at UCF was ultimately unsuccessful, leading to the chapter handing their charter back over to nationals only a few years later, but I think that had more to do with circumstances than effort. The timing was off (ZTAngel can probably back me up on this), and the Panhellenic community at UCF (collegians and alumnae) would love to have them back.

I would have been all about this when I was in college. Every year our large chapter room (our chapter house completed an expansion project just before I joined) was bursting at the seams and we were always adding chairs. Somehow we squeezed everyone in, but I'm surprised we weren't violating any fire safety regulations.

Only if it involves a paintball tourney-turned-philanthropy, with the proceeds going to the sororities of Alpha, Delta, and Pi! :D

Yep. They reorganized my freshman year. They had closed only the semester before. IMHO, it wasn't enough time to squash the rumors and reputation. I knew about their reputation before I even stepped foot on the UCF campus, and I know I wasn't the only one. Also, four sororities colonized within a five year period of DG's reorganization and girls wanted to join chapters that had a "blank slate" rather than one that had preconceived notions. Their reorganization was pretty successful but the chapter started faltering soon after that. During formal recruitment that fall, they missed quota by a lot. Unfortunately, they were never able to overcome old misconceptions and they closed only a few years after the reorganization.
