Rushing as a sophomore..... again

Hey guys, I rushed this semester and went through a few weeks of pledgeship, to just find out that the fraternity I pledged wasn't where I wanted to spend the next three years of college.

If I decide to rush again, what are my chances of getting a bid from a "top tier" fraternity assuming my grades are good? Do I have just as good a shot as a freshman?

Thanks.

No, seriously -- we don't know you or the members of the other fraternities. We have no idea.

Well, you're going to be a sophomore, so consider that.

Assuming that you're not a troll, I'm surprised that you are still concerned about tiers even after a few weeks of pledgeship.

Maybe you'll fit in, maybe you won't. Just as knight_shadow said, nobody here knows you and what the fraternities are like, and nobody at your new school knows you. Give it a shot and see how it turns out.

I'm definitely not trolling, but thanks for the feedback. There are 27 fraternities on campus here, I figure I'll get a bid somewhere.... Just hope it is where I wanna be this time. Thanks for the feedback.

If you're on a campus where 'tiers' are definitely in play and that's where you want to be, getting a bid to a top 'tier' group will be hard. Probably even harder since you were pledging a group previously and decided to drop them (for some people you'll always have the stigma of the previous group attached).

Additionally, if you weren't given a bid by 'top tier' groups when you first rushed, what makes you think they'll consider you this time? Especially if the group you pledged was 'bottom tier.'

I signed up for "formal spring rush" and got a call to come check out a party one night. I went over on a Friday night, hung out, and got asked back Saturday. Saturday I left and then got a call to come up Sunday and got a bid. The fraternity I previous pledged was the only place I even went and met the guys, even though I got phone calls from a bunch of others. Just sort of got caught up in the moment and went with it. It was just a stupid reaction on my part.

By ignoring the calls from other groups, you basically told them you weren't interested. Some groups will remember, others might not.

I'm going to assume you go to Auburn (based on your username). For you to rush again, you're going to have to keep your options open. The 'top tier' (and probably some 'middle tier') groups will most likely not give you a bid either based on your class standing, the fact you pledged a group, the fact you ignored some of these group's calls, or all of the above.

If you're determined to only join a 'top tier' group because that's where you want to be for the next three years, it's not going to happen (unless you have major connections).
