Rush Forms?

Hey everyone, I was just wondering about the rush interest forms that fraternities have on their sites. I'll be an incoming freshman next year and am not sure if i should fill them out for the fraternities i may be interested in- do people actually fill them out? It doesn't seem like they're required (not sure) but it says that they will contact me about summer rush activities. It also has a spot for me to list my interests. Will they actually value this at all or is it not really necessary? Also, if i have to fly down to the school, are these "summer rush" activities that important or should i not really worry about it until i get there in August? Thanks

Many (non-NPHC) fraternities compile a list of men they contact over the summer for rush events. Some chapters may rely heavily on personal connections or alumni introductions, others will rely more heavily on men introducing themselves, i.e. filling out an interest form. I don't know what school you are at, so I can't tell you how important summer events are. However, if you are an out-of-towner, it's possible you may get invited to meet someone in the chapter who is closer to you. It's also possible that you'd get invited to events right off the bat in August, if you can't meet the chapter over the summer.

Listing your activities and such lets them get an idea of how well you might fit into the chapter and/or pair you with men who have similar interests. This will be their first impression of you, and it's important that you give them this information, because you don't want to look like a guy who can't even be bothered to fill out a whole damn form. As a general rule of thumb, you'd want to highlight activities in which you've had a leadership role or been involved for a long time, as well as anything related to academic honors.
