If I could do it all over again...
Okay all...this is a hairy predicament.
I "joined" a BGLO organization many moons ago. I went through MIP and never, ever felt a bond. I did not finish my degree for personal reasons. I am returning to school, married and more secure. After all is said and done, I still love the initial organization. It was the particular previous members that I wasn't too thrilled about. Is it possible to attend an educational institution, and try to attain membership into the same organization all over again...the thing is, I just don't feel like I previously deserved to be in the organization...so to this day, I have never worn letters, never let on to another member that I was a "member" as well, etc., etc. Is it a ridiculous idea to try to earn my way into the organization a second time around? Or should I just stay "unknown" as I am now? Or should I seek out a mentor, explain my dilemma, and seek to participate after graduation on the next level? Honest opinions please. I won't be offended. |

No worries Knight Shadow...not editing/deleting the initial post.
It is what it is. |
I know this is not my lane, but were you initiated? Are you asking if you can go through MIP and get initiated again?
|
Yes. I was initiated.
I know it sounds weird asking if I could do it all over again. It would be at a different institution. Different chapter. The thing is, I want to be able to proudly contribute to the organization and feel like deserve to do so. |
The answer is NO. Take care.
|
You can proudly contribute without having to go through MIP again. It doesn't matter where you cross, it matters what you do after you do.

LOL. Well, regardless of whether or not it matters where you cross (that truly is subjective), the OP cannot do it all over again.

My first thought was logistic - your name would definitely be on record somewhere. What then?
I am continually amazed by people...It seems to be making an issue of something that doesn't need to be one. |
Hypothetically speaking, what if there was a name change? I guess it's a moot point.

The GLO world (NPHC, NPC, IFC/NIC, NAFLO, MCGLO) is actually smaller than people realize. All it takes is for one person to remember your face, maiden name, something about you to make the connection. The best thing for you to do is to reconnect with your org. That does not mean you have to be financial, but at least let them know you are on campus. But honestly, I think this is a sad attempt to ask if she can switch orgs without anyone knowing. |
Sigmadiva,
Thank you for your response. But it's not an attempt to switch orgs. Definitely not the case. I'd rather remain an unknown than switch to another org. It really is a matter of seeing the good done by the org and wanting to proudly contribute. I do appreciate your response though. |

Then do that. If you've stayed in the shadows this long and no one has asked you to contribute, then keep it that way if you want. If you want to contribute somehow, then step up to the plate and do what you can for the org. But really, it seems like you need to move on and let go of whatever issue you had "many moons ago". I'm sure those sorors in your chapter have done the same over you. |
If I could do it again yea
I'd get sunburned on a new tattoo, lose my favorite jeans and my tennis shoes Get kicked out of my hotel room and sleep in the truck for a night or two Blow all my money, have to call my dad and work two months to pay him back Take bong hits and laugh like hell, flick the police off and get hauled to jail If I could do it again I'd do it the same, not one regret I wouldn't change a thing |
Please pardon the lane swerve... honest question from a member of a NPC chapter. If the OP is initiated, then she is already a member- can she not seek affiliation with the chapter at her new institution? I am confused as to why she seems to want to be treated as a nonmember...
