Mississippi State Recruitment 2011
Hey Ladies!! I'm going to be transferring to MSU in the fall and I am very excited to go through recruitment! I do have a few questions though. MSU has implemented a new upperclassman quota and I was wondering how this works... I have tried to look up threads but cant seem to find any MSU ones. Also, I have contacted some chapters and sent them my recruitment packet but I am having a hard time finding connections to alumnae for recommendation letters! I would appreciate it if anyone could help me with finding someone to send my packet too! Thank you everyone!:)

oh okay! how competitive is recruitment at MSU.. i know how it is at Ole Miss and bama but i dont hear alot coming out of starkville.

there are some Mississippi State people on gc. maybe they will be able to help you out.

Very competitive. Ask friends, your parents friends, teachers, school counselors, employers, etc about recs. Network, network. There aren't that many groups at MSU (7 or 8?) so it's not as difficut as Bama to get recs. If you find someone in one group, ask if they know anyone in the others. Greeks often know other Greeks.

Why are you sending anything to the chapters? Typically you give your information to alumnae who can write your rec letters and forward your info to the chapters. Any other registration information would go to the Greek Life office I would think. |

It is competitive at State. So, be open minded and have your recs in on time. http://greeks.msstate.edu/ Good luck! |
A couple of the chapters just told me to send them my packet over email. I hope I didnt break some sacred law!

I'm wondering if everyone's talking about the same thing???....I mean if you want an alum to write you a rec you would have to send your resume etc to the alum, not to the collegiate chapter.

The upperclassman quota at MSU is somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-9 (I don't remember exactly). Like someone said above, just because there is a quota, doesn't mean the chapters have to take that many upperclassman. Recs: Get one for EVERY chapter. Two won't hurt you either. More than two is a little excessive. Go ahead and start finding people to write recs NOW! If you can have them in by the end of the spring semester/June that would be best. It helps prevent you getting lost in the shuffle closer to recruitment. Ask teachers, ladies in your church/other organizations, employers/co-workers, anyone you can think of to write them for you. More people are sorority women than you realize. Recruitment in general: It is a competitive recruitment, but not as competitive as say Bama or TSUN (sorry OleMissGlitter, I couldn't help myself:D). As an upperclassman, you really need to make sure that you have an open mind when going to each of the houses. Do not limit yourself to just a few. All of the houses are great and can provide you a great experience and sisterhood. I see you are from Tennessee. There are a lot of women from the West Tennessee/ Nashville area that are in chapters at State. If you know any of them, start networking now. It can really help to have an advocate in house. If you have any other questions, PM me and I will do my best to answer them for you. Good luck and Hail State! |
