ANTM Cycle 16

Didn't know this was starting today.

I like the "twist" so far. Cuts most of the BS from previous seasons.

ETA: Fiercely real. Bleh.

Just watched this. Meh. Not into it so far, but I'll give it another week.

And ditto "fiercely real."

I noticed they're generally a little older than the girls they usually have on. Is that on purpose or a fluke?

That's exactly what I was thinking. I mean, I understand her reason for the fake rejection, but the girls that thought they made it only to find out that they didn't were probably devastated! But I am sure that is just part of modeling also, but I know nothing about modeling.

Aren't they always kind of old though (by modeling industry standards?) I mean, your average model on a high-end designer's runway is like 18 or younger. These girls are always like 22, 23, etc.

I think the 'super model' thing they're going for is a bit older though, isn't it? And there's at least a moderate push to use models OVER 16... which is a start.

I thought "super model" was based on industry experience, not necessarily age.

I don't know, thought the goal was to do photo shoots AND runway thingers. Is there an official naming organization?

I think a lot of people do both, but I thought the "I don't get out of bed for less than $10,000" models are the ones who have become brands because of how long they've been in the industry.

We may be facing a watering down of the term, but I was just under the impression they went older on purpose. Not "old" obviously but not 18 either. I'm sure "drinking age" is required...

Oh well. Modeling is serious business lol

I like that casting week was atypical. I thought the runway show concept was pretty cool, although I think it had high expectations for girls who had never walked a runway before.

They're usually mostly 18-20. I remember them making a big deal out of a 24 year old before (can't remember what season though). I think these were all 21+ and that's usually not the case IIRC.

 I figured the girls who initially "made it" were models/actresses that were hired to pretend they were picked so the prank would look more real. It wouldn't have worked if Jay said "None of you made it, everyone was cut." Besides, I know Tyra's eccentric but I'm pretty positive she wouldn't fly girls out to LA, tell them they made it, then reveal that they didn't and send them home.

I feel like something was missing by not having casting week. You don't get to know the girls beforehand, hear their stories, etc. I was always annoyed by the huge amount of "pick me based on my sob story, not my looks" but not having it made the premier less interesting.
