They took the risk...this kind of reminds me of the hikers who went thru Iraq.

If they knowingly avoided going to that area, they may still have been alive.

Are you talking about the ones in Iran or something else I didn't hear of?

IrishLake 02-22-2011 05:21 PM

The hikers were hiking in Iraq, but supposedly crossed the Irani border.

I feel terrible for them (the yacht people), but why you would want to go to Oman is beyond me, knowing the risk in the area.

I know that they understood, or THOUGHT they understood the risks, but my heart goes out to their families and friends.

DaemonSeid 02-22-2011 05:35 PM

They were really pressed to hand out some bibles.

Well it is a change for the pirates. This is a huge line they just crossed. Kind of surprised that they killed the hostages. Considering it happened on a US flag ship, it should be easier to prosecute wouldn't it? I don't know much maritime law.

IrishLake 02-22-2011 05:40 PM

^ Considering the Navy took them all into custody, and considering one of the pirates who hijacked the Maersk was just sentanced to soemthing like 30 years in prison (New York court), I'd say all of these pirates are going to spend the rest of their lives in an American prison.

Psi U MC Vito 02-22-2011 05:44 PM

Actually I think that since they committed murder on a US Flag ship, they actually are eligible for the death penalty. Granted this is just something I think, so I could be wrong.

IrishLake 02-22-2011 05:46 PM

I'd be cool with that Vito.

Psi U MC Vito 02-22-2011 05:48 PM

Oh same. That is what I mean when I said it was a huge step though. Also this might also lead in an increase of USCG presence in the area, who does have the authority to enforce laws. It can get very messy very quickly.

Surprised? It was a matter of time. And who is to say that it hasn't happened before? Well, wait...there was a British couple murdered back in 2009.

I wish the families peace and closure, but DAYUM.

Please stay the heck away from Somalia. FAR, far away!
