Alumni Panhellenic Registration?
I registered with my local Panhellenic group today to get ready for rush next year. However, they told me that one of the sororities that will be on my campus did not have a local Area Reference Chair. I'm the first in my family to go Greek so I don't have anyone else to help me go through the process of rushing. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but can I register with another Panhellenic group nearby to get the name of an Area Reference Chair for a recommendation letter? Or can I only register with one Panhellenic group?

Not a problem. I think you are right: your best bet is to contact one of the other APs in your area to see if they have an ARC from that sorority in question. They may want you to register; that is up to them. The registration is just so they have your information to be able to help you best and keep track of where girls are pledging. Registering with an AP has no bearing on your collegiate recruitment-- you still have to register for recruitment at your undergrad. The two are completely separate entities.
IMHO, The ARCs are really unnecessary--- but they help keep the alumnae in the loop and it is a big TX tradition. All you will really need to do is locate an alumna of that sorority and ask her to write a recommendation for you. She can locate the appropriate form on her sorority's website, and send it directly to the collegiate chapter in question. Thus, you can bypass the ARCs entirely, but Texas APs have been doing it this way since time immemorial and make it easier to find recs this way. PM me if you have any questions! I used to work with the Houston AP on the local recruitment round table presentation. Lots of great information, but it can be really overwhelming! |
Thank you very much, that helped a ton! I'm just a little lost because none of my close friends are rushing and none of my family members have ever gone Greek. I will PM you if I have any more questions. Thanks again!

Network by asking friends of your parents, teachers, high school counselors, employers, Sunday School teachers, etc. to line up your recs. If you find one,ask if they know anyone in the other groups on your campus.
