New Theta Question!
Hi ladies!
I'm a brand new, recently-pledged member of Kappa Alpha Theta through COB and I couldn't be more excited! I consider myself SO lucky to have found such an amazing group of girls and am absolutely thrilled to be a part of such an esteemed sisterhood. That all being said, I'm sure you can assume that I'm dying to show my Theta love! I have my bid day shirt, but other than that I don't have any Theta clothing or accessories. Tragic! :p I've heard that as new members, we are unable to wear our Greek letters until after initiation...Do any of you women have suggestions for what to do until then? Any suggestions for new member shirts/clothing/whatever that are pro-Theta, but letter free? I'd really appreciate any input that you could offer! |
Don't you have sorority sisters that you could ask this question to?
|
Hey wildkat and welcome to Theta!!! :D My chapter just got a new batch of thetertots from COB and we are so happy :) I was only just initiated back in October so I know how excited you must be!
Before I was initiated, I wore (and of course still wear) a beautiful pansy necklace I found here and had some totes and other things with "Kappa Alpha Theta" written out on them. That should be okay as opposed to wearing the actual letters. Anything with the symbols or flower on it could be a cute way to express your already apparent Theta love, too :) Again, welcome!! TLAM |
Hello, and welcome! I hope your new member experience is a wonderful one!
I don't know when you pledged, or how things work with your chapter, but my chapter always has older sisters who served as "mentors." They loan non-letter shirts to wear until initiation, and serve as a guide until "bigs" are revealed. My sisters DG chapter did the same thing for her this past fall. Or, if you can afford to buy your own gear, check out the Theta Marketplace on our website, or a website like greekgear or something greek. |

lol, I don't like Theta Babies either, even though that's what the chapter I advise calls their new members.

I don't think I've heard anything else off the top of my head. I am old school, I like "new members." :D
|
Well, I was a "pledge" and even after all these years I am still having to adjust to "new member." Personally, I kind of like thetertots. Had never heard it before, but to me it it is kind of cute and catchy and is far less offensive that "babies." (shudder)
I know of one school that uses kittens, but I don't really like that either. Oh, and welcome wildkat. You can also wear stiched shirts that simply say Theta. That is what we did at my school. |
I've heard "baby stars" too. /end crash. Sorry, my best friend is a new theta and they are baby stars. We were baby owls in chi O.
now back to regularly scheduled theta programming :) |
I was a pledge as well, but the terminology changed while I was active. Thetertots is kinda cute, it's different. It's a little bit better than Theta Babies (I agree with that one, Blondie, for sure!)

Thank you all so much for your warm welcomes and advice! I love the idea of a pansy necklace...Something I can wear all the time!
In my chapter we're just called "new members"/"new girls," but we have "Twin Stars" who are our mentors. @PricessAmy, We haven't even had our first new member module yet (that's this weekend,) or I would have asked my (new) sisters! I did ask my Twin Star via FB, but I haven't heard back from her yet. I was just really excited, so I thought I'd ask here, too. |
Welcome to Theta, Wildcat!! You will be through your "pledge" period before you know it and can wear those precious letters :)
|
Welcome welcome!
Ha, we sometimes used "tots" too...but I think we had all sorts of unconventional terms. Things that spell out "kappa alpha theta" are fine before initiation, as well as black & gold pansy items and other things with our colors. Enjoy your new member period. It goes by quickly! You'll be amazed at how quickly you end up collecting all sorts of Theta related things. |
