Yeah if you want good teams to travel you going to have give more than 3 weeks notice for shows. Just a tip You would have wanted to post this in early January.

Not even. A spring step show needs to be planned in the late summer and finalized with more teams than you really need by December. A fall step show needs to have planning start the previous April. That sort of planning at Georgetown's step shows in the early 00s used to get us SO MANY TEAMS. And it wasn't even a competition! (That's how I met my first LSUs, MSUs, OPBs, etc etc) |

@Black&BlueENt....I'd say exception to this would be teams that are already set to travel and that's all they do is go around stepping in competitions. I've known several different Frat teams that do this. HOw did the event turn out for you?

Also, getting teams to commit with only 3 week's notice can happen if the team members are friends or acquaintances of the stepshow planners--if the planners know teams that have shows together and either don't mind traveling or don't have to travel. Again, even friends and acquaintances may have other things to do than be in your stepshow; and they may be annoyed that you waited so long to ask them. The last possible exception can be local high school and church stepteams that rehearse often and essentially treat the last minute stepshow as they would performing afterschool or for a congregation. That is hit or miss because if those teams are horrible or bail on you at the last minute, that reflects completely on the stepshow planners. Stepshow planners are expected to think of all of the kinks and choose good teams to perform. So, the above exceptions are so hit or miss that they aren't really exceptions. The only last minute team solicitation should be done if a team, that has already committed, has bailed on you. |

LOL I love my frat, but yeah it was getting old. Their legacy did open the debate about traveling step teams. |

[QUOTE=DrPhil;2040564]Having planned a few stepshows, I can say there are really no exceptions to this. "Professional steppers" like the UnKNOWn Stepteam
In fact the Unknown Step Team was one of the groups I had in mind when I sent my reply. The Ques also used to have a team that went around steppin in shows. On the Christian front, Alpha Nu Omega has a real tight team that travels all over. I used to captain a Christian step team that traveled as well. I think with us, we only had 5-6 steppers, no props (chairs, canes, etc), single young fellas with no families, so yes, relatively short notice did not bother us if our schedule was clear. If show wasn’t within 3 hour drive, we would just pass on it. I appreciate your feedback though, I do agree that a step show planners first option should be to contact groups months in advance, especially if a competition. |
