NPR Tiny Desk Concerts

this is a great series to hear new music. it's also a cool venue to hear "unplugged" versions of artists with whom you're already familiar. i've never been much on Iron & Wine, but i just watched Sam Beam's solo performance of some of his new full-band material. i thoroughly dug it. i dig it still. |
Hey! is that you singing on the link I clicked? ***like!*** nothing recorded for sale, though?
BTW NPR has all songs considered, also, which I've subscribed to; what else can you share? ETA: I'm an Iron and Wine fan, + Calexico. Check it out. |
yeah, that's me. my money comes from work with my band and all my sales happen at those live shows. the stuff online is mostly unmastered rough cuts. they're free, and i'll mail out CDs or email songs when people ask for those versions. i'm glad you liked it.
WRLT Lightning 100 is another radio station (based out of Nashville) that has great live performances from lesser-knowns. this one is from Delta Spirit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSkGaVn_mPs (the song starts at 1:01 if you want to skip the intro.) i just checked out Calexico. it was coooool. they sound just like their name. |
I've heard Delta Spirit here in Tucson. Liked, a lot.
Here's one you might know: Matt Andersen. Interested in your opinion. I'd like to suggest you give a listen to kxci.org; they have a live stream. It's one of a handful of community owned radio stations in the United States. I've been a member since God was a baby. |
Matt Andersen's music reminds me of an episode of Austin City Limits i saw a few years ago with Jonny Lang. really cool folk songs and blues songs. as far as acoustic guitar goes, it sounds like they approach writing songs the same way.
i'll check out kxci.org in the morning, when God is a little bit older. |
