Starting a Colony

.

Has your group spoken to anyone in the Fraternity and Sorority Life Office?

Is FIU open for expansion?

Is SAE interested in FIU?

All of these things need to happen before you have to worry about building a successful colony and chapter.

We have done that and FIU is open to expansion and SAE is interested. I'm waiting for more documents from SAE and FIU. In the meantime, I have been recruiting but not sure about anything more I should try and pursue. Is their a certain amount of people I need and any other requirements to become a colony? I just want to make sure I do everything I can to have a smooth transition.

These are questions that you need to ask SAE's expansion officer.

Um... Do you really think it's smart to put your full name, email, and school out there for the world?
Holy privacy failure, batman!

Oops. I thought that's what introductions are all about. My bad.

You're recruiting, but you don't know for sure if SAE is for-sure planning on expanding to the campus. They might be interested, but interest and commitment are a whole different ball-game.

What happens if SAE decides it's not worth the resources to go to FIU? Will you pursue another group or disband? Being so gung-ho for one group may end up harming you if you really want to join Greek Life and another group decides to colonize (*coughPhiLambdaChiatLoyolacough*)

Wait till you have the documents from both in hand. THEN go forward and worry about recruiting more men.

If you have guys that are interested right now, until you have an ironclad commitment from SAE, don't present yourselves as an "SAE Colony." Say something like "we're primarily interested in SAE, but if that doesn't work out, we're open to possibly looking into other fraternities who would want to come to FIU."
