1) You are leaving them but they aren't your brothers if you aren't initiated.
2) No one can tell you what other fraternities will think. 3) If living in a house is your only reason for being in a fraternity, you may want to reevaluate why you're there. |
Other fraternities will think you're a disloyal asshole if you leave your brothers over something like a HOUSE. (Why do you need to rely on nationals and alumni, anyway?)
But go ahead and quit, if that's the most important thing to you. I doubt your brothers would want you around if they read this post. |
Dude, I think you need to really evaluate why you want to go Greek in the first place. Not having a house or living in house is not that big a deal. Especially since you are in college for 4 years and a Brother for the rest of your life.
ETA: Two different people beat me to it. |
I am sorry but I think you would be making a big mistake. I don't know your school or how big the Fraternities are but I would think that word would go around about what you are doing and it would seriously damage your credibility and/or worth. If you depledge do so for better reasons other than the lack of a house. You knew the chapter didn't have one when you pledged.

Coming from a campus where no groups currently have houses (and the national organizations flat out told each of their groups no way in hell), this makes me
Did the brothers explicitly tell you when you rushed that the group would be getting a house? As in they said, "Our national organization and alumni said we will be getting a house next year so you will get the chance to be there for it." If you were told that during rush, I can understand the feeling of having a bait and switch pulled. HOWEVER, If it was never explicitly guaranteed when you were rushing, you're ridiculous. A brotherhood is more than just a physical house. If a house was so important, why did you join this group in the first place? I don't know your campus, but if someone depledged because their group didn't have a house, I wouldn't think of giving him a bid. |

Your ability to switch depends totally on the willingness and desire of another chapter to extend you a bid. Given your description of why you want to "switch," I'd guess pigs will fly before another chapter would want to extend you a bid. |
Dude, ignore all the haters.
You should clearly switch. You obviously aren't in a top tier fraternity anyway (or else it would already have a house), so you have no where to go but up. Seriously, what's to think about? Quit. |

I don't know what campus the OP on, but I am trying to be a bit understanding, here. If, for example, it is the only chapter without a house, and the chapter told him during rush that a house was imminent, I could understand his serious disappointment with finding out that isn't true.
|
My question is how he isn't initiated yet, but this is the "second year in a row" that "we" were promised this.
