Opinions, food for thought

This article was on the homepage for today's Detroit Free Press. Good intentions, I think but mentioning the Tri-Delt and Beta alledged rape makes it look biased, I think.

Hearing this is really shocking, b/c I know alot of the guys in Beta and to think this would happen is unreal. Im not saying it didnt happen, but its just shocking. I know a few girls in Tri-Delt also. If I can find more info I will let you know. The article in my opinion seemed to slam UM greeks more than help. :(. Its funny how they said UM greeks are on the decline when rush has been wayyy up in recent years. However, I am pleased to see they mentioned UM greeks average higher GPA's than non greeks. Oh well :-(

Just more proof that greeks need to be more careful what they do and to watch over each other during parties. Every bad thing a greek does just makes us look worse in the press after each bad action.

Newspaper articles aren't supposed to make the greek system look rosy and happy, if there are underlying tensions or incidents that need to be brought to light. For this article to gloss over or have not mention the alleged rape would have been poor journalism. This article seems to be balanced, fair and well-written.

It makes an excellent point - there are so many other options collegiates have than to join a greek letter organization. So fraternities and sororities need to be even more cautious in what they do, as well as increase positive visability in the communities they inhabit.

It does no good to get mad at a newspaper for doing its job. Journalism is not Public Relations.

alphachiomy,

I couldnt agree with you more. The reporter did his job. How really can you put a positive spin on that? What a shock that was to read that. I'm not sure if I've seen all the facts yet but it definitely sounds like whoever was involved(amongst the michigan chapter) didnt have their head on straight.
