Spring Recruitment Events At the Same Time
Hello!
Some of the sororities at the university I attend are going through with spring recruitment next week. I've received recruitment event information from a couple of them and notice that their events are all on the same days and times. I'm interested in getting to know a couple of them, but I can't see how this is possible with the scheduling. The informal rush is only three days long. I think that based on initial impressions and after doing research on each sorority, I'll pick one that appeals most to me and attend their events. If it works, great! If not, perhaps I can participate more formally next fall. However, it would be great if I could get some advice from those who might have been in the same situation. Thanks! :) |
I went through formal recuitment so I havent been on your side of it, but I can give you an active's POV. I cant guarentee it's the same on your campus, but for us, when sororities had COB events at the same time it was fairly common for girls to split time between more than one event. Events usually ran from 6-8 or 7-9, and girls would "make the rounds" to the events of the chapters that they were interested in. In general, many of the informal recruitment events were so casual (ex: game night, making crafts, themed food/drink nights) that girls could come and go as they pleased and as their schedule allowed. As long as girls came to more than one event, spent a suitable amount of time, and acted sufficiently interested, I dont think not staying the whole time was ever held against them.

I would try to visit at least two chapters. If that means ABC night one, XYZ night two, and you pick which one you like better on night three, then do that, but don't put all of your eggs in one basket if you don't have to.

Thank you both! I will make an effort to attend multiple events the first night; it looks like they are all at the houses.
The second night has one sorority getting together off-campus while I think the other will stay at their house. At that point, I think I'll have to play it by ear. |
Definitely divide up your time among all the events.
If the group having the off-campus event doesn't provide transportation to and fro that enables you to leave when you're ready to, unless it's been the greatest thing since sliced bread and the other groups have completely sucked, I would skip their event but let them know that you're interested (if you are). They shouldn't be compelling the PNMs to make a choice between them and everyone else if every other group is staying on campus to help the PNMs get a chance to see ALL the sororities. |
If you know any sorority women at these chapters (or maybe others who can find out for you) that would be the best. Or the Greek Life office might be able to find out for you. My instinct is they won't hold it against you to split your time, but if they do you don't want to be surprised by that. Good luck!
