Colonization in the Northeast

I was just looking at all the chapters in my old new member book and noticed that for a org. that was founded in the Northeast, there are barely any chapters. New York has only 3 active chapters (5 total) and they are like miiiillllless away from each other. I was wondering if anyone knew if IHQ planned on coming back east anytime soon? Is there anyway we can find out? I live near a ton of colleges (2 right in my city....U of Rochester and RIT) and i think itd be cool to help them organize and maybe even be an advisor.

Tonya...maybe if you know people in the Greek System at these colleges near you, you can talk to them and find out if their Panhellenic is willing to add a new sorority. I don't know the rules on other campuses, but at my school every sorority chapter has to be able to come near or keep quota in order to consider adding another organization. (This came up last year when a group of girls wanted to establish a chapter of A Chi O). If these colleges would consider a new group, try e-mailing someone at IHQ. It would be awesome to add new chapters to our sisterhood (northeast or otherwise). :)

Hi, UM Girl --

I suggest you write or call Nancy Bailey Knickerbocker, the IVP-Extension. Her address is in the Q and I'm sure you can find our her phone number from an online directory.

Among the factors that contribute to a decision to colonize:
-strength of the Greek system on the campus
-what NPC groups are there and what groups have been there
(usually groups with resolved chapters have the right of first refusal for recolonizing)
-local sororities willing to go national
-Greek housing (dorm suites? stand alone houses?)
-number of AGD alums in the community and their willingness to help

HTH!
