The Search Function Blows.. Advice Plz
 

So I tried searching the forums but didnt find anything helpful because my situation is fairly unique..

I graduated high school 08' and spent a year at an out of state U with the plan of going to med school. Turns out that sucked! I decided to take a year off to work and figure out what I wanted.. Im now 21 and have a new major at my in-state school essentially making me a very experienced freshman (My science classes I took left me with some gen-ed credit but not much more. I'm now in the business school).

First of all should I just go into rush saying I'm a freshman (seeing as how I'm basically starting over)? Will I be asked about my age during rush? I don't care if people ask, I just don't want to waist my time trying to get to know potential brothers by telling long boring stories.

I guess I'm asking if I should approach rush as a freshman, or as a quasi-sophomore who took a year off, transferred, and still has four years to go?

2. Your classification should be determined by the number of credits that you have.

3. If you are meeting with these guys, your background should come up. Just tell them the truth.

For the most part, men don't get as hung up on this as women do. As k_s said, let them know the truth. Also, be prepared for people 2-3 years younger than you to be your "elders" as far as fraternity functions and pledging are concerned. If you can't put up with that, pledging most likely is not for you.

Thanks for the input 33girl.. I guess that's what ive been hearing (or reading? lol). I really could care less about being older than anyone. I'm in a new city trying to have the best experience I can, and to form some lasting friendships.. Is this something I should emphasize during recruitment?

If asked why you want to join a fraternity, that's a great answer. If not, just be yourself. The fraternities want to get a sense of who you are so they can determine if you'd make a good member, so just relax, have fun, and be a polite guest.

At my school this wouldn't be a problem at all. We've rushed older people with freshmen status before. At schools with more competitive recruitment the 'top tier' houses might look down on you.

As long as you come across well, it shouldn't do you much harm.

Try to speak from your heart and let them know your concerns. They'll probably return the favor by being honest with you as well.
