The Greatest Jim Logan story
 

Frater Logan, arguably the most brilliant TKE ever, was an attorney in KC and new to the Grand Council. He was visiting
the new Delta Nu chapter at Northwest Missouri State--destined
to become one of TKE's greatest---when a young man, eager to
make frater Logan feel at ease..proclaimed "Frater Logan, we
have 21 pledges!" Logan, never to be outdone or overtly impressed, retorted "You should have 44."
In two weeks, Logan returned to Maryville, MO to visit the chapter and the same eager young man from Cherokee, IA,
tugged at Logan's sleeve, saying "Frater Logan...Frater Logan,
we have 44 pledges!"
Logan, stoic, said "Fine, we will have an initiation tonite."
He did not elaborate, and the initiation was indeed held.
After the ceremony, the gavel was passed so as to give all
the new fraters a chance to talk, and the chapter president asked this: "Well, frater Logan, what do you think now?"
Jim replied, without expression or emotion "I see you have no
pledges."
Delta Nu led TKE in the nation in size that next year. Logan was
a most unassuming but impressive man...and there are a great
number of stories. He is truly the single most dynamic Greek
to ever don a robe...the stories of him are legion. YITB, Erik

James C. Logan, ESQ
 

I had the opportunity to meet the legendary James C. Logan at TKE Conclave in Orlando in 1985. Naturally I knew his name, and I knew his place in history, but I didn't know him as a friend - yet. This was soon rectified.

This was the Conclave in which the theme "America's Fraternity" was unveiled, with the song of Neil Diamond upbeating us all, the music only slightly dulled by the applause following Frater Logan's speech (he threw away the script!), and his request that all 600 Teke's come up on stage with him and sign the giant Declaration of Principles mounted on an easel. It was a most auspicious occasion, for a Teke Legend, over 70 years old, was leading the challenge for our future.

Later, during a quiet moment alone, I couldn't resist asking this great leader, "Frater Logan, you have been around and were instrumental in a lot improvements to our fraternity, but what is the one thing you have learned in all these years of involvment with our great fraternity"?

Frater Logan took a deep breath, looked me straight in the eye, and said, "There is no problem in a chapter that can't be solved by a damn good rush".

Think about it.

I'm a Delta Nu Teke and that story is really one for the archives!
I'd never heard it and I've met Frater Logan. I too was at the 85 Conclave in Orlando and still remember it to this day. (I can't hear a Neal Diamond tune and not think of that time in Orlando.)

Frater Logan invited me out to his home once when I was living in KC. I met he and his wife Helga I believe. Their home was a real showplace. Then he took me and my now wife out to dinner at the Lake Quivera Country Club. What a memory. It's great to pass stories like this along. As I recall that visit to his home, he had lots of red velvet in the drapes and sofas chairs etc. in his home. He is definetly a Teke for life....and on and on....

Jim Logan--TKE forever--Delta Nu
 

Delta Nu was overwhelmingly my most favored chapter whilst I
was on the road. Logan pledged me at Emporia, and he ever
recalled I was the one who went to sleep during his speech!
You, my good Delta Nu frater, really got a treat. Logan was known widely as a cheapskate, really, and we played many a
trick on him...He was heavily criticized when he allowed me to
water ski on Lake Quivira in a three-piece suit. This happened
between wives 1 & 2. I can tell many, many JCL stories. He was an unforgettable frater and Delta Nu an unforgettable TKE
chapter. I drank a lot of Logan's whiskey. He used to get so mad at me that he'd shake and it was very hard to get Logan at
lack of composure. He said I could disrupt a large meeting with
my mere presence. I presumed that was a compliment....
He communicated with me monthly until death, and TKE FINALLY gave him the Golden Eagle...before his death, but barely in time. A truly great Greek, a highly educated man, and

Tried to post this twice so maybe 3 rd time is a charm!;)

While a student at NW Mo St. I was at the TKE House which was way South of Campus! Had many TKE Friends while there till I got Bootoed out of school!:D

Dont know where the House is know tho! Not the same one as I remember from the olden days!

I also had many TKE friends in the House at PSU, where I met E C! Great Group of Men but alas no longer there! I know E C would like to see You Back, and as you know I feel the Stronger the Greeks on Campus, the Stronger WE ALL ARE! http://www.plauder-smilies.de/happy/xyxthumbs.gif

Let's not ever forget Frater James C. Logan!

I've never even heard of Frater Logan. He sounds intriguing so if there are any more stories, by all means tell them! I think he shall become my new idol! hehe

I've emailed Frater Eric P. Conard (who is the walking history book of TKE), and asked him to share more stories about the most colorful James C. Logan, Esq., PGP.

We have been blessed with many, many colorful characters, and later I think we need to ressurect the memory of...................

I remember Jim Kane
 

When I knew him, he was a (ladies) lingerie sales man, and seemed to delight in inviting Tekes to his motel room to display the lingerie samples. He said he had too get the samples out of his trunk, so they wouldn't get wrinkled. I never saw him modeling any, though.

He did do the job for housing for a lot of chapters in Illinois - usually financed on a hope and prayer.
