Being a legacy

Well my dad made me wait a semester to show I could handle the work, so I plan on rushing the fraternity he is a member of in the spring. How big of an effect does being a legacy have on getting a bid or not?

Depends on a lot of things...what school, what chapter, how involved your dad is as an alum...but the bottom line is that being a legacy will not guarantee you a bid to any chapter, and while it can help you, flaunting the fact that you are a legacy will hurt you.

So, you should make sure your dad has notified the chapter that you are indeed a legacy, and you should get to know the guys in the chapter and see if you like them and vice versa.

Kidding aside, DeltaBetaBaby's advice is spot on. Being a legacy may get you a second look (so to speak), but it does not guarantee a bid.

Like most post say: "Its all about personality." Especially the personality of the perspective member and that trumps everything and anything.
