Delta Tau Chi

Does anyone know the real origins of the movie Animal House?

I have heard that the director was a Delta Chi, hence Delta Tau Chi, and their rivals during his college days were Betas, hence Omega Theta Pi.

The closing song actually says "A Delta Chi who can't go wrong".

Any truth to that?

Animal House/Delta Tau Chi

The author of Animal House was a member of Alpha Delta Phi at Dartmouth, and his fraternity chapter was the model more or less for his movie. Delta Tau Chi is a made-up name. Some of the house scenes were shot at the Sigma Nu house at Oregon. The Delta Tau Chi 'house' was constructed by the movie company on a vacant lot nearby.

Chris Miller, who wrote the screenplay, was a member of Alpha Delta Phi (later Alpha Delta) at Dartmouth and the movie is based on his fraternity days. They actually had guys named Otter, Flounder, etc.

The Omegas' crest is virtually identical to a Sigma Chi crest. And the girls' college they road trip to is based on Bennington.
