Introduction

Hello,

I belonged to the Greek system many many moons ago. My chapter of my sorority closed years ago and I am trying to find some history on the chapter and there seems to be none online.

It is as if our chapter never existed--which it did for years at Chico State in California.

My daughter will be going to Arizona State in the Fall and I would love to share with her the history of my chapter at Chico State--and our crazy pioneer days.

I am unsure as to why it even closed.

So, I thought I would give this site a try to see if I could find out any new information.

Looking forward to reading everyone's posts.

Michelle

Beta Kappa - Chico State

I am going to take a stab at this.
Maybe others can help me out here.
You don't mention the sorority that you were a member of at Chico State.
From what I know a local sorority, Beta Kappa, affiliated with Alpha Phi in the late late 80's or early 90's.
There are no more local sororities at Chico.
Hope this helps.

If you are wanting to know why your chapter closed and it was an NPC or another type of national sorority, your best bet is to call your sorority's HQ. They will be able to give you the most accurate information as to why your chapter closed. Most people here will not be able to give you the information you are seeking.

Here are all of the NPC sororities that have been at Chico State:

California State University at Chico (Chico State) Chico, CA:
Delta Sigma Epsilon
Omicron 1924-1956 Absorbed by Delta Zeta
Pi Kappa Sigma Tau 1925-1959 National absorbed by Sigma Kappa
Theta Sigma Upsilon Omicron 1931-1959 National merger with Alpha Gamma Delta

Delta Zeta Delta Chi 1956-?
Alpha Gamma Delta Delta Iota 1959
Sigma Kappa Delta Iota 1959
Zeta Tau Alpha Theta Alpha 1975-2004
Pi Beta Phi California Iota 1986-2005

Gamma Phi Beta Epsilon Kappa 1988
Alpha Delta Pi Eta Rho 1990

Given that the OP would be in an age range where she has a 17 - 18 year old daughter, she talks about her group's "crazy pioneer days" in a way that sounds like she was there in the early days of the chapter and the chapter closed "many years ago" it doesn't look like it would fit any of the closed NPC chapters there.

^^^you beat me to the punch. Several high school friends went to Chico for college. Pioneer Days permanently ended in 1990. If the OP comes back, I suggest you contact the Greek Life Office or the Alumni Office at Chico State; they'll be better able to help you.

Here's an interesting link for those who are bored or have some spare time on their hands:

Pioneer Days refers to an annual event, not a period of time. (Another link on Pioneer Days.)

Sorry that I did not mention my sorority. It was Delta Zeta and our chapter was Delta Chi. Our house was located on 5th street across the street from the Phi Taus. I became a member in 1983 after becoming a little sister of Alpha Gamma Rho in 1982 and pledging with an active DZ who encouraged me to become a Delta Zeta. I have many great memories of Pioneer Days especially the year we were "Little House on The Prairie" and our little nell was Laura Inglels Wilder. I know the chapter closed in the early 90's. I am just not sure why.....
