Why do people do this?

People who act like they like people when they don't.

can you be a bit more specific... there's not much to work with there

because unfortunately some people are just fake. i personally don't see the point in acting like i like someone when i really don't. if i don't like someone i make it clear. there is no point in lying about it.

Sometimes, we must come in contact with people we normally would avoid. A person who can interact with others and make them feel comfortable is considered "polished". With each passage, from learning to share your crayons to being placed on a team, group project or committee, we have to learn to "play nice". We do this in order to acomplish our goals. Sometimes it works out and you find a new friend that you NEVER would have imagined. Other times, you dread it-gripe about it-complete it-and move on.

Then, there are the others. Those who will use you to achieve THEIR goals. They are two-faced & would have everyone LOVE them, while they privately make fun of others who, for lack of experience or status backing, don't have the "tools" to defend themselves.

THE GREATEST MOST OBVIOUS EXAMPLE COMES WHEN THE STUDENT BODY VOTES FOR HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING COURT!
I would laugh and laugh when all of a sudden glittering teeth in mile wide smiles turned on their "HI! (giggle-giggle) HI!" buttons...Now, EVERYONE was their friend.
You've heard the expression "There IS life after HS." Honey, there IS life after college as well. However, some things will never change. In business, you come in contact with ALL SORTS OF JERKS. If you have children, then you REALLY have to deal with some people you can't stand, but you will do it (and nicely) for your children. Just help them recognize the difference so they can defend themselves or avoid turning into such a "user".

Remember- "An aquaintance likes you BECAUSE, a friend loves you IN SPITE OF."

Do you even know me Tibi? What the hell did I do to you to deserve your crappy attitude?

I've been chilling out on GC lately. Why are you bringing this nonsense back up?

I'M SICK OF THIS SHIT!!!

Excuse me for butting in (I usually am a silent observer)...but Sh80er, why get your panties in a knot over an Internet post.

It really isn't that serious.

But, back to the topic at hand, I think everyone at one time or another will act like they like someone, when they don't. If you haven't, well then believe me, you will have to, soon enough. I am a teacher, and some of my students' parents get on my last nerve. But does that mean that I am going to act "funky" with them when I have parent conferences, when I make phone calls, etc??? No. I am friendly with them just to keep the peace.....

Back to the topic at hand

I think like someone mentioned earlier or previously, some folks are just Fake, I call them (Nu pun intened sh80er) just plain ole shady. People know when they act dirty towards others, They smile in your face today and talk trash tomorrow. Some people never learn until it catches up to them and their shadyness backfires on them.
I mean honestly, people come and go , some like you, some hate you, my theory is forget them. Do what you have to do, and Be real and call it a day , ya know what I am saying :D

I hate people who act differently than what they really feel. Unless it's in a business situation, I am rather up front and will not be fake.
But sometimes, things aren't worth getting peeved about. Best thing to ask yourself is: "is this going to matter a year from now?" sounds cheesy, but it's something people should consider.

Then feel free to leave. We'll even open the door for you and hold it so it doesn't hit you on the way out. :D
