Founding years on a shirt?

OK so today as I walked around campus in my new intramural jersey :D I made a slight observation. Our jerseys say "kickin it since 1851," making this like the 4th shirt I have with 1851 on it. Now yes I know we are very very very proud of being first and what not but I got to thinking I have never seen another sorority shirt with a founding year on a shirt on campus. I've also seen the 1851 shirts with other ADPi chapters, so I know we aren't the only ones who do it. But I see them on guys shirts all the time wether it is KA, Pike, Sigma Chi, Sig Ep, lambda Chi, etc and it doesn't have naything to do with who was founded first. SO I guess my question is it just a campus thing that no other sorority cares to put their founding year on tshirts or is it pretty normal for other groups to "brag on their founding year." Just curious and please feel free to "brag on your year" and describe the tshirt. :)

One of our bid day shirts said "having more fun than you since 1872". I never noticed if other sororities had shirts with their founding year.

I have shirts saying our founding year in 1888 and 2003 which is our founding year in the university. We were the first greek organization to get our charter so we brag a little :)

The one with our school year says "In the beginning all women were created equally, on October 25, 2003 a higher standard was set".

No, your sorority is not the only sorority that does that; and the NIC fraternities are not the only fraternities that do that.

It is not a campus thing, a council/conference things, or a particular sorority/fraternity thing. It is a "who wants to put their founding year on some paraphernalia" thing and even newer GLOs do that. :)

My chapter had NFL-themed bid day shirts that said "Drafting the best since 1912" this year. I don't think it's uncommon AT ALL to see founding year shirts, nor would I see it as bragging.

We had greek week t-shirts that said "For us, being #1 isn't luck, it's tradition. KAO, founded 1870."

I have a black long-sleeved shirt with a polo player design that says "Quality never goes out of style. We call it tradition. Delta Delta Delta 1888." I also have a navy sweatshirt dress with "1888" on the hood.

Here's a link to the product without the printing: http://store.americanapparel.net/5398.html?cid=211

I linked to the navy one because that's mine, but every class had a different color. Fall 2008 new members had evergreen, the sophomores had purple, juniors (my class) had navy, and the seniors had cranberry.

It's pretty much the most comfortable sweatshirt ever. :)

We have a few shirts with our founding year on it, but ADPi definitely uses their founding year waaay more often than anyone else. I don't blame them though...the whole "First. Finest. Forever." slogan they use with it is so catchy!
