Rush videos to show potential new memebers.

So I have viewed dozens of rush videos from fraternities and sororities and am trying to look for any patterns to see what techniques are being used to recruit. I have not advertising or marketing experience so this whole thing about recruitment videos is new to me.

I have noticed gernally that fraternity rush videos focus on their parties, outings, socials, and a major emphasis on their activities with girls such a lil sis programs or exchanges with sororities. There are many photos of the bros partying with the girls.

It seems that sororities focus much more on the "sisterhood" and "bonding" as opposed to partying. They also show more photos of community service and philantropy events.

Any thoughts on this or what a good recruitment technique. At my school recruitment is tough because students have a general negative feeling toward greek orgs so recruitment must be top notch.

Why exactly are you here? Are you going through recruitment or are you a fraternity member trying to recruit members? I am very confused by your posts. I'm getting a big troll vibe from you.

Alpha Omicron Pi Angel, I am in a fraternity. I rushed, pledged, and was intiated a few years back and have already graduated. I am an alumni. I am asking this question here because I feel rush videos pertain to recruitment, and want to get suggestions on how to recruit students. As I said above, my school does not have an abundance of students trying to join greek orgs so recruitment is quite difficult. Many students just ignore us and don't want a flyer saying they are too busy. They also think that Greek memebers are simply buying or paying for friends. Showing potential new memebers a strong rush video can make or break a rush for us because we can create perceptions and reputations of our house based on which photos and video clips we decide to put into our rush videos. I figured this would be a good place to ask since I'm sure many people here have experience with recruitment videos and know what works and what doesn't.

I see that you also commented on my thread regarding formal recruitment. Again that does not exist at my school and I didn't even know it existed until a few days ago. So yea I am curious about how it works.

Unless you have multiple personalities, you are an alumnus. ;)

You're an alumnus, yet you keep saying "us" and "we." What is your role in rush/recruitment? Are you advising a chapter?

When I went through FR, I thought rush videos were the stupidest part, and just took away from time to actually be talking to the women. Remember that people join people. It sounds like you are taking an approach of "hey, random pnm, I want to give you reasons to join my fraternity", when maybe you should be taking an approach more like "hey, random pnm, my name is flyingtiger, how's it going?"

Also, you may have noticed fewer social things in sorority rush videos because many campuses have rules as to what can and can not be shown.

Sorority rush videos are often different from fraternity videos because many campus panhellenics have specifications as to what can be included. On mine, for instance, I know that videos cannot contain men or alcohol at all (and IIRC it was expanded at one point to even remove pictures with cups). The fraternities don't have these same restrictions, so many times there are the cliche girls and parties pictures.

I would suggest searching for rush videos on sites like youtube, for instance. I know that fraternities at my school have posted their videos over the years and I'm sure there are videos from many different campuses.

Also, at least as far as my sorority is concerned, I'm pretty sure that stuff comes from headquarters and is completely professionally done. First I'd make sure your fraternity doesn't already have the generic fraternity life is great and you should join us video, I'd at least make sure nobody else on campus is already doing them. A poorly done video (or skit in the girls' case) can make you look worse as a result of your effort. I'd be working on in person recruitment (conversation skills, even for the guys, counts, and not just for the PNM) skills and leave the bells and whistles for another alumnus who works in advertising, TV, mixed media, etc.

Plus, reputations don't happen in a vacuum. Look critically at what's going on at your campus and work to make small steps to improve.

For my fraternity, each chapter makes its own rush videos and thier is no national conference or council oversseing and their are no restrictions placed on us. We do emphasize a lot on talking to the rushees and getting to know them, the videos are just something for us to show them extra, to show them pictures and what we are about in about 5 minutes. It basically to show them other stuff then what they see a our rush events. I actually find them quite useful when rushees are unable to come out to our events. Its almost like you give them what they want to see. so okay, do these guys want to join us because they want to bond with other guys, or because they want to meet girls. Well rush seems to work best with girls so it actually does become a large portion of the pictures we display.
