please explain to me...
why people insist on doing their retro recruitment stories with code names?
I get the real time PNM's using code names because there are too many people on GC who have no life and spend their days searching what schools the PNM is attending, and their whole life's purpose is to destroy a PNM's recruitment. But really a retro? It's bad enough that girls can't be open and honest because the moment they say "OMG I hated such and such chapter" and that happens to be your chapter, the shit hits the fan. As much as I love ADPi, I understand that not every PNM out there is going to love ADPi (or ADPi isn't going to love them). So why can't these people who insist on doing a retro recruitment stop the stupid code names and just use the actual chapter names? Also, why can't they finish their stories. Seriously, just because you don't have every single person reply to your thread doesn't mean it isn't being read. Hello, the system tells you have many people have viewed it! End of my rant. Thank you for "listening". :D I love my sisters! |
This is why I've never done a retro rush story (that and almost everyone's tired of them). If I was being truly honest, which is the whole point of such a thread, I would have to say some really mean things (and no, there is no way to sugar coat it) about a national sorority whose GC members are nothing but nice. It might not bother them, but it would bother me, and I also wouldn't want someone to google "XYZ" and get "mean stuff" (not realizing this was last century ago).

The code name I can understand for those of us that have been here forever, just to add a bit of "suspense" in the first few rounds....you know those stories where they say "OMG, I HATED XYZ" first round, but then end up there. But for newbies who haven't even revealed their affiliation? Lame. Also, I feel that people who come here and never reveal their affiliation are kinda lame.

I like reading the retro threads, but I dont like it when the final affiliation, or even the houses the wrter preffed, aren't revealed. Meh. I like doing what I did. Everyone knew I am a Theta, but it was fun to see people guess which of the code names corresponded with it. :) And I had no problem revealing my key to the code afterward.

It depends how long ago the retro was, IMO. If it has been less than a decade, I feel like posting first impressions is akin to posting stereotypes of sororities.

I can understand not revealing anything about affiliation in terms of discretion for those who may possibly be Recruitment Counselors from an NPC standpoint, and interests or even involved in an intake process for NPHC.
Alumni that hide affiliation outside those instances are lame-os unless they work for a national or international council. |
I don't want NPHC aspirants and applicants to share their stories on GC. Come back if and when you become initiated/cross.
Then perhaps share your experience with that NPHC org and/or how you researched all of the orgs from multiple councils and conferences to figure out which one you love. |
I think it's best to use code names then reveal who they all are later so that you can be honest and not worry that some one can google XYZ and get "OMG, I thought they were the lamest, and they had the ugliest dresses!" Once you decode, you can go back and see that Vanilla who had the lame, ugly dresses was XYZ, but it isn't so hard to just randomly find it without reading the whole story. But, I'm tired of the whole fad anyway.
I'm still waiting for someone to make a thread tracking recruitment stories to let us know when they are over and safe to read! I'm sick of checking over and over just to see that some one is begging for an ending. |

I did my story a few months after I went through the recruitment process- I chose to use a code and not reveal the other sororities publicly because I didn't want it to be that easy for someone to find out exactly what school I attend. I'm still at that university today, and I prefer it for privacy reasons.
Now, I'm sure that it would be somewhat simple for someone to go through all of my posts and figure out my university, but I'd rather not put it all out there in one location- make whatever stalker work for it. But, once you're an alum/na... just say each group. Seriously. |
