ITT we share funny\ unbelievable\ ridiculous stories.

Ever heard one of those stories that is just THAT good? You know, the kind that makes you actively hunt down people to tell it to because you're dying for their reaction? Well I'm sitting on one of those right now, as I'm sure many of you have from time to time. So please, come out and share them, and let us marvel at how silly life\people are together and brighten each other's days.

Allow me to begin:

Last weekend I went home to Portland for Thanksgiving and had dinner with my best friend from high school who still lives there for school. She was telling me about how she took the max [public transit, like a train I suppose?] with a friend from her school to check on a dog she was sitting for. Now the very first thing the owners had told this girl was "The dog might die while we're gone." ...yeah. But they cautioned the girl that she should call their vet and he would know what to do. So sure enough the two girls show up and discover the dog is dead. Mortified, they call the vet who explains that he can't get there for 2 or 3 days so they'll just have to bring the body to him. As it was, neither had their car since they had taken the max over. Hysterical, they find a duffle and stick the roughly 60 pound body inside and carry it over to the max station. As you can imagine, they felt rather funny carrying around a dead dog's body. But on a more practical level, the fact of the matter was that the bag was heavy and they were having a hard time. Luckily, as they got on a nice young man offered to help them and they were too tired from the walk to say no. The man was young, in his twenties, and reportedly quite the looker. The three talked pleasantly until the man commented, "wow this is heavy, what's in here?" My friend panicked but the other girl quickly blurted "Electronics!" The man apparently thought this was a reasonable answer because the conversation moved on. Shortly after the girls reached their stop downtown and the man got off with them still carrying the bag. As soon as his feet hit the pavement however he took off running...carrying what he thought was a bag of electronics. The two girls stood their in complete shock and disbelief. Later they called the owners who obviously weren't happy, but didn't place any blame on the pair. Imagine for a moment if you will the young man's face as he opened what he thought was a bag of electronics....that my friends is what you call karma.

My BS alarm is going off because this a variation of a classic urban legend, but if it really did happen it's a neat story.

Quote:

: This classic urban legend, known to folklorists as "The Dead Cat in the Package," refuses to die a quiet death even though it's at least a century old, as San Francisco's venerated newspaper columnist Herb Caen observed in 1963:

The Story of the Dead Cat: a woman, for reasons unexplained, places her dead cat in a shoebox and, on the way to bury it, stops in a downtown department store. (Why?) As she is shopping, she places the box on a counter, and it disappears. A few minutes later, the store detective finds a lady shoplifter passed out in the powder room, the open shoebox on her lap. I first printed that in 1938 — it was hoary then — and it reappears in somebody's column at least once a year, as gospel.
The email version above, noteworthy for its down-home details like topping off a day of shopping at Dillard's with lunch at Luby's Cafeteria, has been circulating on the Internet since 1998.

A new variant, in which it is claimed that muggers in Austria stole a woman's handbag containing the corpse of her beloved pet rabbit, appeared in European newspapers in November 2007.

When we were kids, my older sisters each had a hamster. One morning, my sister woke up to find her hamster not moving. When she dropped us off for school, my mom told my sister that she'd take care of it. When she got home, my mom picked up the hamster in her hands, checking it over. It was warm, so she thought, it's probably sleeping. She picked up the book on hamsters that my sisters had bought and read that the hamster may be hibernating, along with some tips: Give it warm milk via a medicine dropper, rub its fur. It should wake up soon. After a couple of hours, my mom got really nervous. My sister loved her hamster. So my mom brought it to the vet. Upon picking up the hamster, the vet said, trying not to laugh, "Lady, this animal has been dead for hours". My mom still gets squeamish telling the story, 30 years later.

The funnier part of the story is that the next day in (Catholic) school, my sister was very upset about her pet and crying in class, and the nun who was her teacher told her that she shouldn't mourn animals because they don't have souls and they don't go to heaven, which set her off even more.

True story.
