First Sorority at the University of Victoria, BC, Canada

Hi all,

Just wanted to say hello, and it is great to finally be a part of the Greek System! We have just recently established the first sorority EVER at our University. It has been a challenge, but we are looking forward to casting a positive light on the negative thoughts surrounding GLOs that seem to be present on our campus!

Fraternal love,

Ashley :D

Must have been hard! Heard the University voted against greek life last month. How did you manage to get established after that?

They didn't vote against us... there is no ban or anything. They just have a stance of non-recognition of Fraternities/Sororities as affiliated student groups. As you know, not all fraternal organizations require you to work with the institution directly. I have a feeling, once we show them how awesome Greek Life can be, they will WANT to work with us! :)

My school, Carleton University, has a non-recognition policy as well. We're recognized through the student union, under the umbrella club "Greek Council". Yet we still have a thriving greek community here in Ottawa - it's completely possible to have a successful chapter and greek presence at a university or college in Canada, without having the university recognize greek life.

Just out of curiosity, which organization is planning to start up/colonize?

We are the Upsilon Colony of Kappa Beta Gamma. I really like your idea of a Greek Council Club... We may use that! Thanks ;)
